Hate Me
Eurielle Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

He says, "Save me, save me,"
She says, "Maybe, maybe,"
She starts to turn away when he says,

"Hate me, break me,
let me feel as hurt as you.
Push me, crush me,
but promise me you'll never let us go."

Hate me, break me
Then save me, save me
Push me, crush me
Then save me, save me

She stops walking, walking
He stops falling, falling
He looks her in the eyes and he says,

"Hate me, break me,
let me feel as hurt as you.
Push me, crush me,
but promise me you'll never let us go."

Hate me, break me
Then save me, save me
Push me, crush me
Then save me, save me

Hate me, break me
Then save me, save me
Push me, crush me
Then save me, save me

He says, "Save me, save me,"
She says, "Maybe, maybe,"

He says,

"Hate me, break me,
let me feel as hurt as you.
Push me, crush me,
but promise me you'll never let us go,"

"Hate me, break me,
let me feel as hurt as you.
Push me, crush me,
but promise me you'll never let us go."

"Never let us go..."

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Eurielle's song "Hate Me" tell a story about a troubled relationship where one partner is seeking some sort of redemption or validation by asking the other to hurt them just as they have been hurt. The song opens with the male partner pleading with his lover to save him, to which she responds with hesitation, saying "maybe." As she begins to walk away, he asks her to hate him and break him, to let him feel as hurt as she does. He also requests that she promise never to let them go, indicating that perhaps their connection is not strong enough. The chorus repeats this plea for hurt and salvation, as if the male partner is trying to find a way to simultaneously punish himself and be rescued.

The second verse mirrors the first, but this time it is the woman who is falling away and the man who stops her with his eyes. He again asks her to hate him, break him, and promise never to leave, while the chorus repeats. The lyrics are intentionally ambiguous, leaving the listener to wonder whether the couple is trying to work through their issues or if they are simply locked in a toxic cycle of pain and dependence. The song ends with a final repetition of the chorus and the haunting plea never to let them go.
