Chimera
Euthanasia Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Quiet screams of souls from the bottom of the wattery graveyard
And the look of a blind old man.
An image of inviolability and blind faith
Dying memories, like a life clenched in a fist.
The lyrics of Euthanasia's song Chimera paint a vivid picture of despair and hopelessness through the use of powerful imagery. The first line refers to a moonlit mirage of a damned lake, which represents a false or illusory hope. This is followed by the mention of quiet screams of souls from the bottom of a watery graveyard, which suggests that the hopelessness is not just illusory but also rooted in genuine despair. This is further emphasized by the reference to a blind old man, who represents a lack of clarity or understanding.
The image of inviolability and blind faith seems to suggest a kind of staunch belief in something that is ultimately futile. This is underscored by the mention of dying memories, which the lyrics compare to a life clenched in a fist. This implies that the memories are being held onto even as they slip away, which creates a sense of desperation and sadness.
Overall, the lyrics of Chimera convey a sense of hopelessness and despair that is accentuated by the powerful use of imagery.
