Danny Boy
Eva Cassidy Lyrics

Oh Danny boy the pipes the pipes are calling
From glen to glen and down the mountain side
The summer's gone and all the flowers dying
'Tis you 'tis you must go and I must bide

But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy oh Danny boy I love you so
But when ye come and all the roses falling
And I am dead as dead I well may be
Go out and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an ave there for me

And I will hear tho' soft you tread above me
And then my grave will warm and sweeter be
For you shall bend and tell me that you love me
And I will sleep in peace until you come to me

As a full blooded Irish man who has heard this song sung hundreds of times by family and friends at weddings funerals and every other occasion when Irish people gather togather to sing, I can honestly say I have never heard it sung better and with more feeling than sung here by Eva .

Lyle Wright

Her interpretations of the song's she covered are stunning, many of which she just immediately took ownership of. Too short of a life by far.

Oscarspoem

Quite agree. It’s a beautiful song, she sings it so.

Dave Peterschmidt

@PaulaBill1 Judith's version is beautiful. But Eva's brings out the emotion better IMO. Matter of taste really.

Dee Deimler

@Jeff Williams Irellevant, doesn't matter.

We laid my dad to rest today. One of many Covid casualties.......He used to sing this to me as a kid. Proper Dubliner my dad and I am so proud that I share his blood
