Call Me When You're Sober
Evanescence Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't cry to me, if you loved me
You would be here with me
You want me, come find me
Make up your mind

Should I let you fall, lose it all
So maybe you can remember yourself?
Can't keep believing
We're only deceiving ourselves
And I'm sick of the lie
And you're too late

Don't cry to me, if you loved me
You would be here with me
You want me, come find me
Make up your mind

Couldn't take the blame, sick with shame
Must be exhausting to lose your own game, selfishly hated
No wonder you're jaded
You can't play the victim this time
And you're too late

So don't cry to me, if you loved me
You would be here with me
You want me, come find me
Make up your mind

You never call me when you're sober
You only want it 'cause it's over, it's over

How could I have burned paradise?
How could I?
You were never mine

So don't cry to me, if you loved me
You would be here with me

Don't lie to me, just get your things
I've made up your mind

Overall Meaning

In "Call Me When You're Sober," Amy Lee sings about a relationship where her partner keeps leaving her and then coming back, causing her frustration and pain. She starts by saying that if this person truly loved her, they would be with her instead of constantly leaving, and encourages them to make up their mind about whether they want to stay or go. She wonders if she should let them fall and hit rock bottom so that they can remember who they are.

Amy then points out that they are both lying to themselves about the state of their relationship and that she's tired of it. When this person tries to come back to her, she refuses to let them play the victim and tells them that it's too late. She explains that they only want her when it's over, and that's why they never call her when they're sober. The song ends with her making it clear that she's done with the lies and that this person needs to leave and get their things.

Overall, the lyrics to "Call Me When You're Sober" convey a sense of anger, frustration, and empowerment. Amy Lee is tired of being lied to and played with, and she's ready to move on from this person and their toxic relationship dynamic.

"Don't lie to me, just get your things. I've made up your mind". Such powerful lyrics and truly amazing song. You don't fully understand it when you're young, but it just evolves and hits differently when listening when you're older. Truly a rock classic, i thank you Amy and Evanescence for this masterpiece.

@alexcal24

It also shows empowerment. "I've made up your mind" after THREE choruses in which she pleads him to "make up your mind".
The narrator is truly fed up and finally makes up his mind for him. Truly intelligent writing.
