The Dolphin
Evans Bill Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It seems like a dream, yet I know it happened
A man, a maid, a kiss, and then goodbye
Romance was the theme
And we were the players
I never think of this without a sigh

Lover, one lovely day
Love came, planning to stay
Green Dolphin Street supplied the setting
The setting for nights beyond forgetting
And through these moments apart memories live in my heart
When I recall the love I found on
I could kiss the ground on Green Dolphin Street

Lover, one lovely day
Love came, planning to stay
Green Dolphin Street supplied the setting
The setting for nights beyond forgetting
And through these moments apart memories live in my heart

When I recall the love I found on
On Green Dolphin Street

Overall Meaning

The song "Green Dolphin Street," originally composed by Bronislau Kaper, has been covered by various artists, and one of the notable ones is Bill Evans. The specific version I want to focus on is called "The Dolphin," which is a rendition of Green Dolphin Street by Bill Evans. The opening lines, "It seems like a dream, yet I know it happened. A man, a maid, a kiss, and then goodbye," suggest the song's narrative. The song is narrated from the perspective of a person reminiscing about a past love affair. The song is bittersweet, as the singer remembers the love they had found on Green Dolphin Street.

The romantic encounter that the singer is remembering happened on Green Dolphin Street, a famous street in New Orleans. The song's subtle piano melody suggests the singer's reminiscing and longing for the time when they found love on that street. The phrase "The setting for nights beyond forgetting" evokes this idea of a place so special that the singer can't forget it. And through these moments apart, memories live in my heart, suggests the longing and desire for that past love.

Overall, "The Dolphin" is a beautiful and evocative song about the longing for a past love that the singer can't forget. The song's melody and lyrics perfectly capture the wistful nature of memories and their ability to transport us to a different time and place.

The song that plays in my head when I am driving to work to listen to troubled children. To go yet another day and Bill makes it a little easier.

Magistral interpretação de Bill Evans .......

Marcelo Cavalcante
