Pickin' A Chicken
Eve Boswell Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning | Line by Line Meaning

Come to the barbecue and sit by my side
We couldn't choose a better night if we tried
Can't you imagine what a thrill it will be
Pickin' a chicken with me

It's so romantic, the moon up above
Is extra bright on a night such as this
Pullin' a wishbone with someone you love

Is almost certain to end with a kiss

So come to the barbecue, my darling my dear
I'm so in love with you and when you are near
I get a feeling that forever you'll be

Pickin' a chicken with me

It's so romantic, the moon up above
Is extra bright on a night such as this,
Pullin' a wishbone with someone you love
Is almost certain to end with a kiss

So come to the barbecue, my darling my dear,
I'm so in love with you and when you are near
I get a feeling that forever you'll be
Pickin' a chicken with me

Pickin' a chicken with me
Pickin' a chicken with me

Just played this for a bit of nostalgia, as it was in my mum’s collection of 78 rpm records, which I saw again tonight while clearing out the house. As kids, we played them to bits before we had many records of our own. along with the ballad of Davy Crockett, yellow rose or Texas and Frank Sinatra singing Love and Marriage, etc!

This and Cookie, also by Eve Boswell, were the earliest ' Pop ' records I recall hearing on the BBC Light Programme , quite often when it was still very conservative in its popular music output , largely British light classical music mainly still played by live bands or a studio orchestra .Hard to believe nearly a decade before the Pirates that really gave us what we wanted to hear !.

I like this chirpy novelty song, great to dance to in the kitchen while making dinner!

My granny would play this to me when I was a toddler. I’m 55 now. Lol.

Sounds too staccato now - but back in the day, it rocked. I was 13 and waitin'!
