Signing to Rise Records in September 2003, with a disc full of home recordings, the label said EP, booked London Bridge Studios in Seattle, and with John Goodmanson (Death Cab For Cutie, Vaux, Sleater-Kinney) at the controls, recorded their debut 6-song EP Endura in 4 days. The ironically titled debut release (more a statement of what's to come, than a present declaration), is stunning. A relentless call-to-arms, wrapped inside dense walls of guitar, layered with acoustic guitars and piano; a 30-minute burst of energy and emotion. No excess, no wasted time.

Ever We Fall Lyrics

and here, they realize the time spent forging
a new place for those who lost their way
was funded by those who had never come across such troubles and why is it,
that we ignore the atrocities that surround us
until they forge their way into our eyes
the negation of the bleeding hearts that lay around us no matter how loud, or how fierce they scream
their voices remain silent
because somewhere, the walls are stained a deeper shade of red
goddamn this whole world
when all our faces are blurred
concealed and burned
and all of the screams
we thought they heard
were lost into the night
See this road ahead
it's leading to the thoughts straight down your head
you mistake it once again my shoes are tied
but they're loosened by the seams were all pinned down
like everything now
God save this whole world
the black lines shading our eyes
are blinding the truth
and everything is lost in the long night
the night...the night...the night
The opening stanza of Ever We Fall's song "Aria" describes the realization that the time and effort put into creating a better place for those who have lost their way was actually funded by those who have never experienced such struggles. The lyrics ask why we tend to ignore the atrocities that occur around us until they become impossible to ignore - until they "forge their way into our eyes." The track then goes on to describe the violent and bloody realities of the world we live in, and how the pleas of those affected by such atrocities often go unheard despite how desperately they attempt to convey their messages.
The repetitiveness within the song quite effectively builds suspense via adept use of dynamic contrast. The progression is rather strong and powerfully contrasting. The lyrics themselves are meant to be a reflection of the state of the world today, shedding light on the neglect of those who are struggling with unspeakable horrors. Through "Aria," listeners are encouraged to address the ugly truths of our society, rather than ignore them, as well as to take a minute to recognize the victims of such horrors - to "wake to the cries the night air carries."
