After a solo tour in the fall of 2003, Alexakis decided to continue with Everclear, organizing a new band that made its debut in March of 2004. The new lineup consisted of bass player Sam Hudson, guitarist Dave French, and drummer Eric Bretl. In the summer of 2004, the band added keyboard player Josh Crawley, and swapped Bretl for former Everclear drum tech Brett Snyder. The new lineup released its first recording, a cover of Woody Guthrie's This Land Is Your Land, that summer. A self-released EP of performances recorded for XM Satellite Radio called Closure was given out at shows in the fall of 2004.
Free of a major label, Alexakis spent the ensuing year and half slowly recording material for a new Everclear release. He admitted that the time after the breakup of the original lineup served as a "wake up call", during which he suffered his third divorce and a filing for bankruptcy. Alexakis announced the completion of the album in early 2006,titled Welcome To The Drama Club. The new band is now on Eleven Seven Music.
In August of 2008, drummer Brett Snyder left the band after four years. He was then replaced by Tommy Stewart, who previously played in bands Fuel and Godsmack.
Don
Everclear Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The sky above won't fall down
See no evil in all directions
Resolution of happiness
Yeah, things have been dark for too long
I don't change for you
Don't change a thing for me
Yeah, don't change for you
I found a love I had lost
It was gone for too long
Hear no evil in all directions
Execution of bitterness
Message received loud and clear
I'm standing here on the ground
The sky above won't fall down
See no evil in all directions
Resolution of happiness
Yeah, things have been dark for too long
The opening lines of Everclear's song "Don" suggest a feeling of stability and calmness. The singer is standing on the ground and there is no sign of danger or chaos in the sky above. He sees no evil in any direction and feels a sense of happiness and resolution. At this point, the lyrics seem to be conveying a sense that everything is going well and there is a feeling of contentment.
However, as the song progresses, the lyrics suggest that there has been a dark period in the singer's life. He mentions that "things have been dark for too long" and he has been through a lot of bitterness and pain. The line "I found a love I had lost, it was gone for too long" implies that he has recently reconnected with a lost love and this has brought him some happiness. The final lines of the song reiterate the sense of stability and calmness from the beginning, suggesting that the singer has found a sense of peace and resolution after a difficult period.
Overall, the lyrics of "Don" convey a sense of searching for stability and resolution after a time of hardship. The singer has been through a lot of pain, but has found happiness in reconnecting with a lost love.
