After a solo tour in the fall of 2003, Alexakis decided to continue with Everclear, organizing a new band that made its debut in March of 2004. The new lineup consisted of bass player Sam Hudson, guitarist Dave French, and drummer Eric Bretl. In the summer of 2004, the band added keyboard player Josh Crawley, and swapped Bretl for former Everclear drum tech Brett Snyder. The new lineup released its first recording, a cover of Woody Guthrie's This Land Is Your Land, that summer. A self-released EP of performances recorded for XM Satellite Radio called Closure was given out at shows in the fall of 2004.
Free of a major label, Alexakis spent the ensuing year and half slowly recording material for a new Everclear release. He admitted that the time after the breakup of the original lineup served as a "wake up call", during which he suffered his third divorce and a filing for bankruptcy. Alexakis announced the completion of the album in early 2006,titled Welcome To The Drama Club. The new band is now on Eleven Seven Music.
In August of 2008, drummer Brett Snyder left the band after four years. He was then replaced by Tommy Stewart, who previously played in bands Fuel and Godsmack.
Evergleam
Everclear Lyrics

Heaven lives and I know where
Sounds to me a not so easy chair falling free and living down
Stringing out and over and happy
Evergleam and I know why it isn't real and I'm not going to break
Not going to break
Don't die don't give in to it no way no way
Please don't leave me
Evergleam and I know how pulling hair and breaking voices
Spin the wheel it will give you now
Spinning wills don't give you choices
Give away the spark inside, you give away the shining prize
Evergleam and I know how it isn't real and I'm not going to break
I'm not going to break
No way, I'm not gonna break
I'm not gonna break
No way
Evergleam, everywhere, ever weird, everyone
Evergleam, everywhere, everything
I'm not going away, not going away, not going away
No way, I'm not gonna break, not gonna break
No way, I'm not gonna break
I won't see you there I'm not going away
No way, no way, no way
The lyrics to Everclear's "Evergleam" reflect a sense of hope in something intangible yet ever-present. The repeated phrase "Evergleam" refers to the shining, eternal quality of something that is always there, like a glimmer or flicker of light in the darkness. The singer acknowledges the goodness of God and the love of Jesus, suggesting a spiritual element to their understanding of this concept.
The verses describe a sense of freedom and joy in this knowledge, with the language portraying a lightness and buoyancy that belies any potential struggle. The lines "Sounds to me a not so easy chair falling free and living down / Stringing out and over and happy" capture this feeling of effortless ease and contentment. However, there are also hints of darkness and struggle in the lyrics, such as the line about "pulling hair and breaking voices," which may indicate a sense of stress or desperation.
Overall, "Evergleam" is a contemplative and somewhat enigmatic song that invites interpretation and reflection. It suggests the possibility of finding solace and peace in something transcendent and unchanging, even as the world around us shifts and changes.
