After a solo tour in the fall of 2003, Alexakis decided to continue with Everclear, organizing a new band that made its debut in March of 2004. The new lineup consisted of bass player Sam Hudson, guitarist Dave French, and drummer Eric Bretl. In the summer of 2004, the band added keyboard player Josh Crawley, and swapped Bretl for former Everclear drum tech Brett Snyder. The new lineup released its first recording, a cover of Woody Guthrie's This Land Is Your Land, that summer. A self-released EP of performances recorded for XM Satellite Radio called Closure was given out at shows in the fall of 2004.
Free of a major label, Alexakis spent the ensuing year and half slowly recording material for a new Everclear release. He admitted that the time after the breakup of the original lineup served as a "wake up call", during which he suffered his third divorce and a filing for bankruptcy. Alexakis announced the completion of the album in early 2006,titled Welcome To The Drama Club. The new band is now on Eleven Seven Music.
In August of 2008, drummer Brett Snyder left the band after four years. He was then replaced by Tommy Stewart, who previously played in bands Fuel and Godsmack.
Here Comes The Darkness

Think I'm gonna spend some time in hell
Here comes the darkness again
I got no one to blame but myself
Here comes the darkness again
Got a couple of drinks my head will forget
Here comes the darkness again
Everybody says I'm wasting my time
I sit and listen to rejection on the telephone line
Everybody says the pain is gonna slowly fade
Yeah, I'll get them on a really good day
I can see the light but it's so far away
Here comes the darkness again
I thought another pretty girl could help me forget
Here comes the darkness again
I got no one to blame but myself
Here comes the darkness again
Gonna spend some time in hell with my friends
Here comes the darkness again
I got no one to blame but myself
I got no one to blame but myself
Everybody says I'm livin' in denial
Yeah I tell them that this is the only way I can go
Everybody says I'm livin' in fear of the future
Yeah, yeah, yeah,
Yeah, I tell 'em that my [incomprehensible]
On a really good day
I can see the light but it's so far away
Here comes the darkness again
There's a light at the end of the tunnel
I can see it burnin' super bright and strong
I can see a light is shinin' at the end of the tunnel
Woah
Sometimes I think this tunnel is a million miles long
Oh, on a really good day
I can see a light but it's so goddamn far away
Here comes the darkness again
(Woah, woah)
Here comes the darkness again
(Woah, woah)
Here comes the darkness again
(Woah, woah)
Here comes the darkness again
(Woah, woah)
Here comes the darkness again
Guess I'm gonna spend some time in hell
Here comes the darkness again
I got no one to blame but myself
I got no one to blame but myself
The lyrics to Everclear's "Here Comes The Darkness" describe a recurring feeling of hopelessness and despair that the singer experiences. The constant repetition of the phrase "here comes the darkness again" exemplifies the cyclical nature of his struggles. He acknowledges that his current situation is a result of his own choices and actions, but he feels powerless to break free from them. He turns to alcohol and temporary distractions like women to try and forget his pain, but he ultimately recognizes that these solutions are only temporary.
The singer seems to be surrounded by people who try to offer him solutions or hope, but he resists their help. He is resigned to his fate and seems to believe that this is the only way he can go. He knows that he needs to face his challenges head-on if he wants to overcome them, but he doesn't have the strength to do so. The song ends on a somewhat hopeful note, with the singer recognizing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, but it still feels impossibly far away.
Overall, "Here Comes The Darkness" is a powerful and relatable song that captures the feeling of being trapped in a cycle of despair and hopelessness. It's a reminder that no matter how hard life can be, there is always hope for a brighter future.
