After a solo tour in the fall of 2003, Alexakis decided to continue with Everclear, organizing a new band that made its debut in March of 2004. The new lineup consisted of bass player Sam Hudson, guitarist Dave French, and drummer Eric Bretl. In the summer of 2004, the band added keyboard player Josh Crawley, and swapped Bretl for former Everclear drum tech Brett Snyder. The new lineup released its first recording, a cover of Woody Guthrie's This Land Is Your Land, that summer. A self-released EP of performances recorded for XM Satellite Radio called Closure was given out at shows in the fall of 2004.
Free of a major label, Alexakis spent the ensuing year and half slowly recording material for a new Everclear release. He admitted that the time after the breakup of the original lineup served as a "wake up call", during which he suffered his third divorce and a filing for bankruptcy. Alexakis announced the completion of the album in early 2006,titled Welcome To The Drama Club. The new band is now on Eleven Seven Music.
In August of 2008, drummer Brett Snyder left the band after four years. He was then replaced by Tommy Stewart, who previously played in bands Fuel and Godsmack.
I Want To Die A Beautiful Death

Everybody here in this small town
Looks used and abused at bay
Everybody here's looking outside in
Seems like nothing ever changes
Everybody, they just want to have a good time
Everybody wants to feel like they did
When the sky looked blue
And the world was perfect
I don't care
I just want to die pretty
I just want to get lost in the motion
I just want to get lost in my beautiful self
I just want to get lost in the city
I don't want to live forever
I just want to die a beautiful death
"Ha ha ha ha"
(Ugh)
Yeah, I got to get the hell out of this town
Everybody's looking upside-down
Everybody here is looking for the same thing
When it seems like nothing ever changes
Everybody they just want to find a slow ride
Everybody they just want to get by
Everybody wants to feel like they did
When the sky looked high
And the world was simple
I don't care
I just want to die pretty
I just want to get lost in the motion
I just want to get lost in my beautiful self
I just want to get lost in the city
I don't want to live forever
I want to die a beautiful death
I want to die a beautiful death
I just want to die a beautiful death
I just want to die a beautiful death
I just want to die pretty
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
I just want to die pretty
Oh (oh)
I just want to die pretty
Oh (oh)
Sometimes I just want to die
I just want to get lost in the moment
I just want to get lost inside the city tonight
I just want to get lost inside myself
I don't care about nothing
I just want to get lost in the motion
I just want to get lost in my beautiful self
I just want to get lost in the city
I don't want to live forever
I want to die a beautiful death
I want to die a beautiful death
Yes, I want to die a beautiful death
I just want to die a beautiful death
I just want to die pretty
"Oh yeah"
The song "I Want To Die A Beautiful Death" by Everclear seems to be about the desire to escape from a small town where everything seems the same and nothing changes. The lyrics express this desire to get lost in the city, to forget about everything and just enjoy the moment. The chorus repeats the line "I just want to die pretty" which can be interpreted as the desire to have a beautiful, peaceful death that is void of any suffering or pain. This can also refer to the idea that a person wants to die in a state where they feel satisfied with who they are and the life they have lived.
The song seems to be a commentary on the desire for escapism in a society that is constantly pressuring people to conform. The lyrics suggest that the desire to escape and feel free, even if only for a moment, is universal. The idea of dying a beautiful death could also be seen as a metaphor for breaking free from the constraints of society and living life on one's own terms.
This song is a reminder that people often feel disconnected, alone and isolated in small communities, leading them to desire a better life outside. It is also about wanting to find purpose and meaning in life while living life on one's own terms.
