After a solo tour in the fall of 2003, Alexakis decided to continue with Everclear, organizing a new band that made its debut in March of 2004. The new lineup consisted of bass player Sam Hudson, guitarist Dave French, and drummer Eric Bretl. In the summer of 2004, the band added keyboard player Josh Crawley, and swapped Bretl for former Everclear drum tech Brett Snyder. The new lineup released its first recording, a cover of Woody Guthrie's This Land Is Your Land, that summer. A self-released EP of performances recorded for XM Satellite Radio called Closure was given out at shows in the fall of 2004.
Free of a major label, Alexakis spent the ensuing year and half slowly recording material for a new Everclear release. He admitted that the time after the breakup of the original lineup served as a "wake up call", during which he suffered his third divorce and a filing for bankruptcy. Alexakis announced the completion of the album in early 2006,titled Welcome To The Drama Club. The new band is now on Eleven Seven Music.
In August of 2008, drummer Brett Snyder left the band after four years. He was then replaced by Tommy Stewart, who previously played in bands Fuel and Godsmack.

Bad things that you don't want to know about
Tell you tomorrow what you did today
Just remember, it's a small town
It's a real small town
She gets tired of all the stupid boys
She can't wait until they're done
She wants someone who can make her come
Yeah, can you make me come
You always say you want a simple life
You and me both know that you are a liar
You always say you want a simple life
Hearing you talk just makes me tired
Swim in the heavy water
Buried in the sand
Happy hearts fall from my shaky hands
I can't hide my sexual life
He always says he wants to find a special one
But you watch his head go spinning around
He really wants anyone who'll give it up
He seems to forget he's in a small town
You always say you never fuck around
You say this town is just plain full of liars
Yeah you always say you never fuck around
Hey, hearing you talk just makes me tired
Swimming in the heavy water
Buried in the sand
Happy hearts fall from my stupid hands
I can't hide my sexual life
My sexual life
The song "My Sexual Life" by Everclear is a melodic and dynamic track that deals with the topic of promiscuity and the reality of living in a small town. The lyrics are pointed and raw, reflecting a life full of confusion, frustration, and desire. The song starts with the line "People you know try to tell you things," and establishes the theme of knowledge and small-town gossip. The singer begins to address the listener directly, perhaps the object of his affection, and sings "She gets tired of all the stupid boys/She can't wait until they're done/She wants a man who can take his time/She wants someone who can make her come".
These lyrics reveal the singer's own self-doubt and anxiety over his ability to please and satisfy his partner. He then goes on to sing about the hypocrisy of his own desires, stating "You always say you want a simple life/You and me both know that you are a liar," suggesting that his longing for a life of stability and simplicity is at odds with his own sexual desires. The chorus of the song, which repeats the line "Swimming in the heavy water/Buried in the sand/Happy hearts fall from my shaky hands/I can't hide my sexual life," suggests a sense of helplessness and vulnerability in the face of unfulfilled desire.
Overall, "My Sexual Life" deals with themes of insecurity, hypocrisy, and the challenges of living in a small town, all of which are explored through the lens of sexual desire.
