Their self-titled debut album was released under The Militia Group in April 3, 2007, followed by a tour with bands such as Over It, Higher, Hanson and Self Against City. Their debut album was quickly followed by an acoustic version entitled 1 1/2 and an EP called Gold Noise which were both released in 2008.
Their sophomore album, called Wanderlust, was released in 2011 after the band succeeded in raising enough money through Kickstarter to actually produce the album.
Button For Punishment
Everybody Else Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
'cause that's all i got
When i walk away
You'll tell me to stop
The back of my head
Too painful to see
And i feel a shadow
I can't get enough
You really are a torturess, my girl
An audience that isn't impressed
You are my button for punishment
That i push until i'm satisfied
My jacket is on
Can leave when i want
Both only a word i'll be nailed to the spot
Where your lashes stared
And your breath was warm
Like delicate breezes
Before the storm
You could almost forget
You really are a torturess, my dear
A teacher looking over my test
You are my button for punishment
That i push until i'm satisfied
But i'm not satisfied
Give me some punishment
Oh, i can take it
Give me more, oh, please
Baby, help me
Kill me
I would lose my mind if i can't stay
...if i can't stay
So don't you forget
When walking where the river leads
Wearing a ring that's from a vending machine
I am a glutton for punishment
And i won't stop until i'm satisfied
But i'm not satisfied
Give me some punishment
On this rainy evening
No use hiding on
The corner of pitz & mercy (?)
You accidentally said you loved me
Now, i bet you wish you could just take it back
But now i know it's a fact
And that's your punishment
The lyrics of "Button for Punishment" by Everybody Else depict a person who is addicted to the pain and punishment inflicted by their lover. The first stanza reveals the self-destructive behavior of the singer, who is taking a chance on walking away from their lover. The second stanza suggests that the singer has already experienced pain to the point where they cannot bear to look back. Throughout the song, the singer describes how their lover is like a torturer, but they keep coming back for more. The lines "you really are a torturess, my girl/ an audience that isn't impressed" and "you really are a torturess, my dear / a teacher looking over my test" indicate that the singer sees their lover as someone who is not easily pleased and someone who is always testing and pushing them to their limits.
The chorus comprises the lines "you are my button for punishment / that I push until I'm satisfied / give me some punishment / oh, I can take it / give me more, oh, please / Baby, help me / kill me," with the singer seemingly alluding to their addiction to the punishment inflicted by their lover. The last verse portrays the singer's unconditional love for their lover, despite the pain they have endured. The lines "I am a glutton for punishment / and I won't stop until I'm satisfied" seem to suggest that the singer sees their love for their partner as irrational, yet acts upon it anyway.

I'm taking a chance
I am willing to take a risk
'cause that's all i got
Because I have nothing else to lose
When i walk away
When I try to leave
You'll tell me to stop
You will try to make me stay
The back of my head
The part of my head that I can't see
Too painful to see
Too difficult to confront
And i feel a shadow
And I am haunted
Following me
By something that always catches up with me
You really are a torturess, my girl
You are someone who inflicts pain on me
An audience that isn't impressed
A group that is not moved or affected
You are my button for punishment
You are the reason I punish myself
That i push until i'm satisfied
That I continue to punish myself until I feel justified
My jacket is on
I am ready to leave
Can leave when i want
I have the ability to walk away at any time
Both only a word i'll be nailed to the spot
However, you have the power to stop me with just a word
Where your lashes stared
Where you looked at me with intensity
And your breath was warm
And your presence felt comforting
Like delicate breezes
Like a gentle wind
Before the storm
Before everything turned tumultuous
You really are a torturess, my dear
You continue to cause me pain
A teacher looking over my test
As if you have authority over me
But i'm not satisfied
But punishing myself doesn't fully satisfy me
Give me some punishment
I crave more pain
Oh, i can take it
I am convinced that I am strong enough to withstand it
Baby, help me
Please give me what I seek
Kill me
I would rather die than continue to feel this way
I would lose my mind if i can't stay
I would go crazy if I cannot be with you
...if i can't stay
If I am not allowed to remain by your side
So don't you forget
Remember this
When walking where the river leads
When wandering down an unpredictable path
Wearing a ring that's from a vending machine
Holding onto something of little value
I am a glutton for punishment
I seek out pain and suffering for myself
And i won't stop until i'm satisfied
And I will continue to hurt myself until I feel a sense of relief
On this rainy evening
During this somber time
No use hiding on
There is no point in trying to avoid
The corner of pitz & mercy (?)
The intersection of pain and mercy, two opposing forces
You accidentally said you loved me
You did not intend to express your love for me
Now, i bet you wish you could just take it back
Now, you probably regret saying it
But now i know it's a fact
But I cannot ignore that you do love me
And that's your punishment
That you must face the reality of your feelings
