As a youth, each Sunday, Dawn went to Church and Paid her respects and not to mention was a virgin.
Dawn, as a youth, used to go to Church every Sunday, pay fees, and follow the religious practices, and also abstained from any sexual activities.

Dawn allowed a man to approach her because he made her laugh and was so popular that all the other girls were behind him.

Then things started to move without cause And a couple o'months later kid's pushin' for the drawers.
Dawn and the man's relationship progressed quickly for no apparent reason, and soon he was trying to have sex with her.

Under pressure while exchangin' glances Dawn finally gives in to the sexual advances.
Dawn succumbed to the pressure and eventually had sex with the man.

Although it was a mad high cost for her 'cause' after the thrill was gone, so was the lust for her.
Despite the high price, Dawn lost the desire and charm for her after the initial passion had subsided.

Eventually he left her for another. Now feeling alone and betrayed by her lover She cried--for no longer knew which way she headed.
The man eventually left her and found someone else, leaving Dawn feeling betrayed and alone. She was struggling to find her path after this tragic incident.

Once dreamed of actually wearing white at her wedding And really being pure, now she thought she'd die without.
Previously, she had dreamed of a pure and traditional wedding but now felt lost and hopeless without a partner.

Verse two of Dawn's life--the second segment. What could be worse than to now find out you're pregnant?
In the second part of Dawn's life, the worst case scenario occurs when she discovers that she is pregnant.

Poor Dawn couldn't sleep--laid awake Not ready for a child and plus her mother's gonna break.
Dawn was unable to sleep and was anxious because she was not prepared for a child, and she was also afraid of her mother's reaction.

Consequences of being used as an object. In church though time's runnin' thin She decides to have the child because the doesn't want to sin.
Dawn contemplates the consequences of having been used only for sexual purposes, and to avoid sinning, she makes the decision to have the child despite her circumstances.

Little help from the government, she got her own place. HARD for an indepentant woman and a kid And as soon as she could get off the assistance, she did.
Dawn receives very little help from the State and gets her own living space. It was a very tough experience for a woman to live independently while taking care of her kid, so as soon as she could, she decided to stop getting assistance.

Her son was busy cuttin' school and hangin' with his friends. So when she got words she tried to slap out the taste in his mouth And explain how important education is.
Dawn's son was skipping school and spending time with his peers instead. When she found out about this, she was angry and frustrated and tried to correct him, explaining the crucial importance of education.

Under stress, she takes two Bufferin. Son now tired of seein' his poor mother sufferin'.
Dawn was under extreme stress, taking medication to alleviate it. Her son was also tired of seeing his mother undergo such distressful circumstances.

Starts to sell drugs though the cops did a raid. Guess who's in the mix, and being legal age Could do time, please call her employer To inform her that her son is gonna' need a lawyer.
Her son begins to sell drugs, and it becomes a legal issue which could result in imprisonment. Dawn's employer is contacted to inform her about her son's criminal activity and to arrange a lawyer for him.

Here's the judge's sentence, beggin' and pleadin'. Now spends nine hours on the bus to go and see him.
The long and arduous journey of visiting her son in prison starts; after pleading, the judge's final verdict was announced. Now, Dawn was spending hours on the bus to visit him in jail.
