Get Out
Everything In Slow Motion Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Be still and close your eyes.
They'll come for you when you're weak.
Be still and close your eyes.
Don't listen when they speak.
I will not be a slave to this body.
Get out.

The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
Get out.
I don't want it.
Light it up and let it burn to the ground.
Get out.
I can feel it. I'll rise above the ashes.
Get out.
I don't want it.
Light it up and let it burn to the ground.
Get out.
I don't need it.
I'm sick of giving in.
So let the walls come down.

Flesh and bones will return to dust.
But your love holds me, forever.

I am sick, sad, weak, tired and broken.
I say "I'm fine". But nothing's fine.
All the lies, the lust, the tongue like a razor.
I say "I'm fine". But nothing's fine, so let the walls come crashing down.
Get out.
I don't want it.
Light it up and let it burn to the ground.
Get out.

I can feel it.
I'll rise above the ashes

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Get Out" by Everything in Slow Motion talk about the struggle of the human spirit against our physical bodies and the negative influence of external forces. The song advises listeners to "be still and close your eyes," referring to the importance of taking a moment for introspection and self-reflection. The lyricist suggests that many people fear weakness and vulnerability, and some may take advantage of those moments of weakness to gain control over others. The phrase "I will not be a slave to this body" shows a desire for spiritual emancipation and liberation from the limitations of the physical world.

The chorus encourages listeners to move past negative influences and start anew by saying, "the old has passed away; behold the new has come." The lyricist acknowledges the burden of trying to carry all that negativity and encourages the listener to "light up" and let it burn down.

While the song's themes appear to centre around spiritual upheaval, it could also be interpreted as a commentary on mental wellness, with lines such as "I am sick, sad, weak, tired and broken." It also references the difficulty in admitting to personal struggles, such as "the lies, the lust, the tongue like a razor." Ultimately, the song encourages listeners to "let the walls come crashing down" and start anew or overcome their challenges.

First saw this album at a Mardel's in Springfield, MO, and thought it was too hard at the time. MY STUPID 11-YEAR OLD SELF!!! Now I'm 15 and this is kinda soft compared to what I listen to. Keep up the good music!

@4evertobymac

This and Poison are my favorite songs <3
I love going through facedown records and other christian labels to find great bands like Everything in Slow Motion

@spiderfingers2113

Poison is the best and my all time favorite. But I'm not that familiar with this label. Could you recommend some similarly unique bands from this label for me

@4evertobymac

I'd be glad to ^^
Facedown Records tends to have more "hard core" bands than Everything in Slow Motion, so it's hard to recommend similar ones, but the two most similar are probably Fallstar and War of Ages (maybe even My Epic). If you're into the harder metal/screamo, my favorites are Colossus, Gideon, and Extol.

@spiderfingers2113

I'll give them a listen tanks a bundle. Yes I do like screamo and metal, and I'm always on the lookout for new music so I'm all ears.

@4evertobymac

You're welcome c:
I always tend to go back to Haste the Day, Becoming the Archetype, and RED when it comes to listening to harder rock btw
If you haven't heard of any of them, you should definitely look them up ^^

@spiderfingers2113

RED? Ha, you're my new best friend

Linkin Park!? Holy shit it's like I'm listening to the old LP.

@brianbehm6212

I disagree, but they should totally do a song featuring Chester Bennington!
