Bro, Wtf

The fact her dad was the one to tell on her always sends me the chills

AbbyWhisperWitch

Did anyone also notice that her coward father isn't in the crowd? Unless I missed him or something.

Bro, Wtf He most likely knew she would not renounce her "sins."

AbbyWhisperWitch He's there but he's not crying. Like a typical sexist man, trying not to seem weak and believing that sacrificing his daugther's life is good.

I think this scene is important for so many reasons but it was definitely what woke Serena up. Eden was the epitome of what she hoped Gilead women would be- pious, virtuous, obedient, traditional. When Eden does what a normal young girl would do (fall in love and want to run away with her boyfriend) she’s executed. Serena realizes there really is no hope for women in Gilead. Any real humanity or identity they express will be met with destruction or execution. It’s interesting the first time we see Eden is on her wedding day- a child bride to Nick, forced upon him and brainwashed into thinking it’s at all ethical. The last time you see her you see her she’s with the man she chooses to love, and again she’s bound but free.

Julie F She is bound but free - beautiful.

Yes, and what look like crosses on the wall behind them are really just lane markers, but the imagery is indescribable.

Nice perspective. The best one yet. "Bound but free" wow!

Also, Corinthians is often quoted at weddings and her relationship with Isaac is reaching the only official 'conclusion' that it can in this society. Nick says that she's too young and has her whole life ahead of her, and we shared that sentiment when we saw her on her wedding day.
