Exhorder was formed in 1985 in New Orleans, Louisiana. After releasing several demos in the vein of pure thrash metal, they started to adapt more of a groove metal-oriented sound with their debut studio album, Slaughter in the Vatican, released in 1990. This sound was further developed by their second (and to date last) album, The Law, released in 1992. The band dissolved later that year.
Exhorder are often credited with having created the groove-oriented thrash metal sound that was copied and popularized by Pantera. The band is either more or less indifferent to such sentiment as they were friends with Pantera and were saddened by the passing of Dimebag Darrell. However, they do not deny the possibility of them having influenced Pantera's sound even though Kyle Thomas has stated Pantera deserves the praise they receive as he feels Pantera have always worked much harder than Exhorder ever did at being successful.

The truth
Exhorder Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
your
previous hearings so I can
tell you
the truth...
here we come to defy
all we have in mind is us
and all the rest is refuse
away
what's mine is mine
and hers is mine
and his is mine
and yours is mine
that's the fact
I can recall a time when I
was young and was
taught to do
what is socially
acceptable
such a shit receptable
well, fool, I don't know
about you
but I'm gonna get some of
that pie
that's cooling in the
window
greedy circles of frenzied
sharks
bleeding teachers feed
them all
do you think I
give a fuck?!?
no!
no, not at all!
zero sympathy!
and what's more
motherfuckers
you can kiss my fuckin' ass
because
it makes me laugh...
all I've spoken is the truth
I may have said some lies
but
still I've told my truth
The lyrics to Exhorder's song "The Truth" speak of defiance, greed, and a disregard for societal norms. The singer challenges the listener to "turn a deaf ear" to their past and embrace his version of the truth. He proclaims that all that matters to him and his kind is themselves, and the rest can be discarded as refuse. The repetition of "mine" in the lyrics further emphasizes the singer's selfishness and desire to obtain what he wants at any cost. He declares his disdain for societal expectations and those who try to teach him what is "socially acceptable," referring to it as a "shit receptacle."
The bridge of the song takes on a more aggressive tone as the singer threatens those who would oppose him. He mocks those he deems as greedy circles of frenzied sharks, accusing them of being fed by bleeding teachers. The singer expresses his complete lack of sympathy and urges the listener to kiss his ass. He ends by stating that he has spoken the truth despite possible lies in his words. Overall, "The Truth" is a song that celebrates individualism and rebellion against societal norms.
