Exitmusic wrote and recorded the follow-up to "Passage" but the project was left unfinished when Palladino and Church separated. The band went on hiatus while Church worked on solo projects and Palladino pursued acting, appearing in "Boardwalk Empire" and "Halt and Catch Fire," among other film and TV projects. Palladino and Church revisited the recordings six years later, and the album, titled "The Recognitions," was finally released in 2018.

I'm body soft and desintegrated,
I'm in the self half illuminated,
I'm on the call but is distant and faded,
I myself am the robber denied,
I chased all I lost down a spiralling silence
I'm on your side it's just so hard to see you,
I'm on the side of the ghost and the needle.
Is the choice in my hand?
The suicide or the slaughtered lamb?
When it's so full of tricks,
I'll be toasting the gold lights of life,
The trail is cold and hard,
The course of the light of the child,
A slow messenger,
I'm in charge of the coal and the fire.
White noise calling on a sudden deluge,
I'm chased out of breath trying to come back to you,
I'm in arrest of the subtle hues,
I'm in the self sick solitude,
Sky's falling soft to the silence renewed,
I erased all the tops from the tall city view,
I'm in the flesh of the hungering few,
I'm on the call trying to get back to you.
Is the choice in my hands?
The suicide or the slaughtered lamb?
When it's so full of tricks,
I'll be toasting the gold lights of life,
The trail is cold and hard,
The course fo the light of the child,
A slow messenger,
I'm in charge of the coal and the fire.
The lyrics to Exitmusic's song White Noise seem to revolve around themes of struggle, desperation, and the search for meaning. The opening line references a common image in Christian iconography, Christ on the cross, which suggests a sense of sacrifice and suffering. This is juxtaposed with the singer's own feelings of being "soft and disintegrated," suggesting a loss of identity or coherence. The line "I'm on your side it's just so hard to see you" suggests a desire for connection or support that is somehow blocked or obscured.
As the song progresses, the lyrics become more abstract and fragmented, with references to "the ghost and the needle" and "the coal and the fire." These lines suggest a struggle between opposing forces or impulses, perhaps between life and death or light and dark. The repeated question "Is the choice in my hands?" suggests a sense of powerlessness or uncertainty, as if the singer is struggling to make sense of their own situation.
Overall, the lyrics of White Noise suggest a search for meaning and connection in a world that seems confusing and chaotic. The references to Christ on the cross and the slaughtered lamb suggest a spiritual dimension to this struggle, while the repeated mentions of gold lights and light of the child suggest a quest for hope and renewal.
