I'll Never Get Over You Getting Over Me
Exposé Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I hear you're taking the town again
Havin' a good time with all your good-time friends
I don't think that you think of me
You're on your own now, and I'm alone and free

I know that I should get on with my life
But a life lived without you could never be right
[Chorus]
As long as the stars shine down from the heavens,
Long as the rivers run to the sea,
I'll never get over you getting over me

I try to smile so the hurt won't show
Tellin' everybody I was glad to see you go
But the tears just won't go away (won't go away)
Loneliness found me, looks like it's here to stay

I know that I oughta find someone new
But all I find is myself always thinking of you

[Chorus]

Oh, no matter what I do,
Each night's a lifetime to live through
I can't go on like this
I need your touch
You're the only one I've ever loved
Oh oh ah

And as long as the stars shine down from the heavens,
Long as the rivers run to the sea,
I'll never get over you getting over me

(I'll never get over you getting over)

Never get over you getting over
I'll never get over you getting over me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Exposé's song "I'll Never Get Over You Getting Over Me" express the pain and difficulty of moving on from a past love. The song's narrator hears that her former partner is out having a good time with friends and doesn't believe that they're thinking of her. She knows she needs to move on with her life, but she can't imagine a life without her ex. The chorus repeats the sentiment that she'll never get over them getting over her, as long as the stars shine and the rivers run.

The singer is trying to put on a brave face and hide her hurt from others, but she can't shake the loneliness and longing she feels for her ex. She's aware that she should try to find someone new, but she can't stop thinking about her former partner. The bridge of the song provides a moment of yearning, where the singer admits that she needs her ex's touch, that they were the only one she ever loved.

Overall, the song captures the deep emotions involved in trying and failing to move on from a past relationship. The catchy chorus and melodic tune give the lyrics a sense of longing and heartbreak that is hard to forget.

I have all their CDs and Cassettes!!!!

I still have all their CDs and Cassettes!!!

I cannot find their records…all sold out, Barns and Nobel’s, Best
Buys, Target…maybe I’ll try Amazon

I had (and still have a serious crush) with each of them
even while I was attending University of San Diego.

When will they start touring again, anyone knows?

Those of us that grew up in the 80's & 90's don't know how lucky we were...there will never be an era of music, that comes even close...quality of music, as well as life in general, has been on a decline ever since..80's, 90's will never be forgotten!! Greatest music, most talented musicians of all time

@jeremystevens6640

@rnicholasmartin1335

Have to agree although I would include the seventies as well. A lot of the Motown groups laid down the foundation for 80's bands

Diane Warren will go down in history as one of the best songwriters who's ever lived...

@SunflowerChild82

This song, right here, reminds me of being 10 yo in 1992. On a field trip in school to a Native American site in Florida. I bought a silver and amethyst bracelet that I still have to this day at almost 40 yo. Love it and thanks for the memories. I had the best childhood. Music and all. ♥️♥️♥️

I love these lines - Diane Warren is one heck of a songwriter. She penned several love song hits, some of which many of you may know. What's amazing to me was that she never married - where did she find all the inspiration for coming up with these songs?! Wow.
