Overall Meaning

The first stanza of Extra Musica's "Racines" showcases the power of ancestral heritage in the lives of those who celebrate their roots. The first two lines indicate that the singer reminisces on the traditions he used to partake in during his youth. The next few lines are the names of prominent people that could represent the community's leaders or historical figures. The "pointe du savoir faire" implies that they are individuals who are experts in their respective fields. The line "Est-ce que ba'a na tina?" may be translated to "Are they still in our memory?" or "Do we still remember them?" which emphasizes the importance of remembering our ancestors and their contributions.

The following stanzas list a series of names that are associated with different legendary figures in African history. There are references to Roi Makoko, Roi Malwango, and Sundiata Keïta. The usage of the word "bazali" which means "descendants," implies that the individuals mentioned are people who came before the singer and his community. They may serve as sources of inspiration, guidance or as figures to honor.

In the latter half of the song, the lyrics shift to narrative storytelling. The lyrics speak of a journey to Okouma, a village that is possibly the singer's place of origin. He mentions different landmarks like Ta Nkombo and Gamboma along the way. The final lines of the song reveal the singer's identity, Roga Roga, which implies that he is a member of Extra Musica.
