Eyes Wide Open has since carved their way into the halls of Swedish Metal. Pointed out as a Melodic death metal or metalcore band by different genre purist, but Eyes Wide Open’s soul lies within the melody, big choruses and their catchy riffs.
With ”And so it begins” the Eyes Wide Open trilogy is finally complete. Starting with ”Revelations” to tell us whats about to come if we continue to leech on this planet and ”Aftermath” how we may or may not live through it.
”And so it begins” takes on the perspective of today, where we stand with all of our problems like wars, environmental disasters and our addiction to luxury. Will the revelations come true?
With the sudden departure of vocalist Patrik Fahlin, Eyes Wide Open had to evolve and Erik stepped up as their new vocalist.
Erik says: People probably thought we were done for when Patrik left us, but we pulled through big time. And now I don´t hesitate to say we are better than ever. With ”And so it begins” we prove ourselves among the top players and now I´m just thrilled to get out there to kick some ass.

And I think it's all that we can take
Swimming in a sea of dead words
Can't tell the demons apart
It's just a place where the snakes
Speak in tongues
Can't tell them apart
Everyone knows it all
But it a sense nothing at all
Pulling back the strings of blind herds
Puppets march in line
Vultures starts to descend
Feeds on trust
Don't speak be silent now
Don't think just listen now
Nothing to hide
From the shadows you abide
Walking with the devil on your side
Life shatters right before your eyes
Don't speak be silent now
Don't think just listen now
Nothing to hide
From the shadows you abide
Walking with the devil on your side
Life shatters right before your eyes
In "Walking with the Devil," Eyes Wide Open paints a picture of a world where reality is distorted and people are lost in their own minds. The lyrics suggest that the singer feels trapped in this world, saying that they're caught in a weakened state and can't tell the demons apart. The sea of dead words and the snakes speaking in tongues symbolize confusion and deceit, while the puppets marching in line and the vultures descending represent the loss of control and the destruction of trust.
As the song progresses, the singer implores the listener to be silent and listen, suggesting that there's nothing left to say or think. As they walk with the devil, life shatters before their eyes, indicating that they've lost everything and are powerless against the forces at work. The song ends on a somewhat ominous note, suggesting that the singer and the listener are still caught in this world and have yet to find a way out.
Overall, "Walking with the Devil" is a dark and haunting track that uses vivid imagery to explore themes of loss, confusion, and powerlessness. It's a powerful anthem for anyone who feels trapped or lost in the world around them.
