Let You Down
Eyeshine Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Have you seen the way?
Smile hesitates
Favorite clothes are frayed

So tell me what's going on (Tell me what's going on)
Has it cost your glow? (Cost your glow?)
I just gotta know
I'm so sorry that, that I let you down
I just hope that I
Haven't lost you now
I'm so sorry that, that I let you down
I just hope that I
Haven't lost you now
We will remember

There's nothing left to say
The walls won't chip away
Blank eyes lie in wait

So tell me what's going on (So tell me what's going on)
Has it cost your glow? (Cost your glow?)
I just gotta know

I'm so sorry that, that I've let you down
I just hope that I
Haven't lost you now
I'm so sorry that, that I let you down
I just hope that I
Haven't lost you now
We will remember
What you did for me

I'm so sorry that, that I let you down
I just hope that I
Haven't lost you now

I'm so sorry that, that I let you down
I just hope that I
Haven't lost you now
I'm so sorry that, that I let you down
I just hope that I
Haven't lost you now

We will remember
What you did for me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Eyeshine's song "Let You Down" express a feeling of regret and apology for failing someone important. The opening lines describe a noticeable change in the person's behavior, with their smile hesitating and their favorite clothes becoming frayed. The singer then asks what's going on and wonders if their actions have caused the person to lose their glow. The repetition of the phrase "I'm so sorry that, that I let you down" shows the weight of the regret, and the hope that they haven't lost the person's trust and affection.

The second verse continues with a sense of finality, with the walls not chipping away and "blank eyes" lying in wait. The repetition of the question about the person's glow further emphasizes the singer's concern for the other's well-being. The chorus repeats the apology and hope that they haven't lost the person, but adds "we will remember what you did for me," which suggests that the relationship has been positive and important.

The overall theme of the song is the importance of taking responsibility for one's actions and the regret that comes with failing a relationship. The lyrics emphasize the value of the bond between two people and the desire to keep that connection alive, even after making a mistake.

Eternal Blade

Eyeshine might have a better quality sound, but the sound AND lyrics of their earlier works just seems to appeal to me much more. Prime example is this song. It's so raw and filled with awesome hard rockness, it really amounts to how awesome Eyeshine was back in 06.
