Moon
Ezio Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Moon, you're just a ball
And you, you're just a girl
Moon, moon, you're just a ball
God knows he's only playing pool

Prayer, you're a long distance call
And hope springs eternal
Leaves me to stare at the moon

Name, you're nothing more
Face, face, you're only skin and bone
Voice, you've been to heaven and back
By the time that I hear you on the telephone

House, the one that I was born in
I read somewhere you spin at 600 miles an hour
Sun, it's obvious you're stalling
Don't burn out of fire
Burn just as long as you can.

Thighs, you're just for walking
Bond, I know we bond out of fear
Song, you're a moon starer talking
And laughter, you're the smile that he can hear

Moon, you're just a ball

Desire, you're the only nature
Pain, pain, you're my self defense
Love, how can I love or hate you?
When you say that I haven't got common sense

Honesty, I know that you're rewarded
Lies, you're rewarded as well
Money, once they get you hoarded
They try to convince me
You can't buy me happiness and health

Power, is what excites you, I wish that I did as well
Meek, you think that you shall inherit
In that case I think I want to be in hell

Moon, you're just a ball
You, you're just a girl

Moon, you're a girl
Moon, you're a girl

Overall Meaning

In this song, Ezio is expressing his perspective on various aspects of life, by breaking them down to their core essence. He starts by addressing the moon, which he refers to as "just a ball". He juxtaposes this with a girl, who he also says is "just" a girl. Through this comparison Ezio suggests that everything can be broken down to its simplest form. He then brings up prayer, and hope, and how these two concepts are intertwined. We can pray long distance, and our hope for something better can keep us going through the night, while we stare at the moon.

Ezio continues with the idea of simplification by talking about a person's name and their face, both of which are just physical features. He highlights the importance of voices since they can convey so much, and can take our thoughts up to the heavens in terms of communication. He then brings up "the house that [he] was born in", and talks about how it spins at 600 miles an hour around the earth's axis. This line of lyric is probably trying to relate the fast pace of life, and how it can be overwhelming at times. He then addresses both the sun and moons, and tells them to burn as long as they can, implying that we should all try to live our lives to the fullest.

Ezio then moves on to thighs and bonds, painting them as objective features with simple, straightforward purposes. He then highlights the power of songs, how they can take us on journeys, like looking up at the moon. Laughter is then addressed, as the smile that others can hear when we are truly happy. He ends the song with a discussion of desire, pain, love, honesty, lies, money, power, and meekness. Through this list he is breaking down the world into a few core elements that affect us all.
