Tuesday Night
Ezio Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

No one knows me in this place
Never heard my name, they've never seen my face
No one's walking the street outside
It's late, it's raining, it's Tuesday night

Spanish girls clap quickly
And their bodies turn slowly
And their heels go
tap, tap, tap tap, tap on the floor
And the barman he ignores me
He won't stop his conversation
With the poster of his hero on the door

And the young girls smile sweetly
And they cross their legs discretely
And pretend to be much older than they are
Well me, I can't stop staring
At their breasts and at what they are wearing
And at the mirror they are facing at the bar

And I want you, I want you from afar
I want you the way I want a Vibra-slim guitar
Yes I want you

Let me stand in your hallway light
It's late, it's raining, it's Tuesday night

Why does my glass keep disappearing
Why have I lost all sense of hearing
Why do I wonder if I ever really had a friend
Let me revel in the madness
Let me aggravate my sadness
Is there a heart that I can break
Or one that I can mend
How about you?

Did he swear he'd never leave you
Did he promise he'd never deceive you
And now does he ever speak your name
Do you recognise your sorrow
In my eyes look out, by tomorrow
You'll regret having been taken in again

And I want you, I want you from afar
I want you the way I want a Vibra-slim guitar
Yes I want you

Let me stand in your hallway light
It's late, it's raining, it's Tuesday night

Overall Meaning

In the song Tuesday Night by Ezio, the singer finds himself in an unfamiliar place where he is a complete stranger to everyone. It is late at night, and it's raining outside, which highlights the sense of loneliness and isolation. While sitting in the bar, the singer observes everything around him with great detail, noticing the Spanish girls clapping their hands and tapping their heels, the barman conversing with a poster of his hero, and young girls pretending to be much older than they are. In the midst of all this, he is particularly drawn to a woman, who he wants from afar, comparing this desire to wanting a Vibra-slim guitar.

As the song progresses, the singer becomes more introspective, wondering about the people he's lost and the relationships he's destroyed. He revels in the madness and aggravates his sadness, looking for a heart to break or mend. The lyrics suggest that he may have deceived someone he cared about in the past, and he imagines a similar scenario happening to the woman he desires. In the end, the song ends on a melancholic note as he stands in the hallway light, still longing for something he can't have.

Overall, Tuesday Night is a poignant reflection on loneliness, regret, and unrequited desire. The lyrics leave a lot open to interpretation, with the singer's past and motives left mysterious. However, the vivid imagery and introspective themes make it a standout in Ezio's discography.

I’m so glad this is on here. Saw these guys many many times live when I lived in Belfast. Best live act I’ve ever seen.
Unfortunately they never come to this side of the pond.

There's another version of this medley (with reversed order of the 2 songs) on the album "Live At The Shepherds Bush Empire" (Salami Records, 1999), which was also released as a VHS and - IIRC - some 5 years later on DVD (was and probably still is on YT somewhere else). Well worth looking for!

I met booga at Subway in Belfast. He invited me to eat with him and Ezio at their hotel across the street, then to their show that night. My friend and I showed up early and we got to jam with them before the show. Then they just slayed it . This was at the Rotterdam bar in Belfast.
