Breakaway
Ezra George Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
He won't tell her what is going on
Well try, oh, try, oh
Lie, oh, lie, oh
He won't tell her what is going on
You may think that he's a demolition expert
When he's finished with your self-esteem
Oh, come find shelter, oh your shelter with me
With me
Breakaway
She don't like to disturb the peace
Became attached to the weak at least
She's got diamonds to show for it
That tree of gold for it
Well, she don't like to disturb the peace
You may think that he's a master of disguise
You lost your dignity, you compromised
It may be true, we all need knocking down a few
Come find shelter, oh your shelter with me, with me
Breakaway, oh
Breakaway, oh
Breakaway, oh
Breakaway, oh
Breakaway, oh
Breakaway, oh
Breakaway, oh
Breakaway, oh
Breakaway, oh
Breakaway, oh
Breakaway, oh
Breakaway, oh
You (breakaway, oh)
You may think that he's a demolition expert (breakaway, oh)
When he's finished with your self-esteem (breakaway, oh)
It may be true, we all need knocking down a few (breakaway, oh)
Come find shelter oh your shelter with me, with me (breakaway, oh)
Breakaway, oh
Breakaway
The song Breakaway by Ezra George speaks of the struggles in a relationship where one partner refuses to disclose what is going on in their mind, causing confusion and unrest. The first verse repeats the line "He won't tell her what is going on" and suggests that the person may resort to lying to cover their feelings or actions. The second verse speaks of the female partner who is attached to people with weaker personalities and has material success but may lack inner peace. The chorus 'Breakaway' is a call to action, a plea to break free from the toxic relationship and find refuge with someone who values and shelters them.
The lyrics of the song carry a powerful message about the need for open communication in any relationship to avoid misunderstandings, conflicts, and unnecessary pain. The metaphor of 'demolition expert' and 'master of disguise' used in the song reflects on the emotional impact that verbal and psychological trauma can have on one's self-esteem. The repeated refrain 'Breakaway' highlights the need to escape and move on from negativity to find positive solace.

AYAKA tea party
This whole song speaks to me.
When ever i did something "wrong" he would never tell me so i couldnt fix it. (He won't tell her whats going on) (when hes done with your self esteem) he made me change my clothes and made me feel ugly. I always wanted to be free from the toxic and away from a horrible life (break away)
I don't like to vent, i dont want others dealing with my problems. (She don't like to disturb the peace)

This song makes me think about my relationship with my ex and how he brainwashed me and made me feel bad about myself. Thank God I broke away. Thank you, George, for writing this song. Soooo much truth here. And thanks for the lyric video. :)
