Had the S21 FE for about a week now, I upgraded from an S9. Zero remorse, literally none, even after seeing the S22 launch, none! It performs beautifully only issue I've noticed is when restarting the device it's a little sluggish loading everything but it's easy for me to ignore that seeing as the overall performance is awesome. I could not agree more, Dave. This was the exact choice I was faced with when contemplated an upgrade from my Pixel 4a 5G. I went with the FE from Best Buy at $499. Net of my trade-in, my cost was $275. The phone has been problem free for me and the specs and value for money are terrific. And I love the plastic back and HATE glass-backed phones! I wanted to get the Pixel for its cleaner Android build, but the problems just don't seem to be going away for many.

@Daddy knows best I have shifted from OnePlus 7 and now in S21 FE I am not only facing poor battery issue, but also facing poor network problem. While One Plus 7 as long as it lasted, I didn't face any of the problems. In S21FE for getting some decent battery backup I have to switch off many functions e.g. what the use of giving 120 hz refresh rate, if the phone can't last even four hours.

these long term reviews are so much more useful when deciding between 2 phones, there are so many small details about phones that you have to deal with everyday ... 120 hz becomes irrelevant after a few days, the brightness of your screen dropping to 1 in plain day light is something that will annoy you all day every day

I have to disagree that 120hz becomes irrelevant after a few days. Yes, it may not be something you consciously pay attention to, but overall it makes the UI experience soooooooo much more fluid. Try switching back to 60hz after a few days and you'll see what I mean 🤣

Hi Dave, this video is why I decided to buy the S21FE. I've owned Samsung devices before but migrated back to Apple after avoiding them for years due to the iOS battery issues that plagued them after the iPhone6 series. However, the problems I've personally experienced with iOS16 became a monumental breaking point for me. I had an iPhone SE3 but wanted a larger display so I bought an iPhone 13 which became unusable once iOS16 was installed. I worked throughout the 14-day return policy to troubleshoot the issues (which included multiple phone calls to Apple Tech Support) but decided to exchange it for another. After installing iOS16 on the new device the exact same issues became apparent within hours so I returned it for a full refund. That money was then used to grab the Samsung S21FE bundled with a pair of Galaxy Buds2 and I could not be happier. This prompted me to move back to the Samsung ecosystem and Windows entirely. I'm learning data analytics and all software used for the field is native to and intuitively operates best in Windows. So, I traded in my Macbook Air and iPad Air for a 15" Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro and a 13.5" Microsoft Surface Laptop 4. You have single handily set off a tech overhaul in my house. Ultimately, I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your honesty and non-hype approach to reviewing tech, your thoughts and advice have proven to be super beneficial in my decision making and I'm truly grateful. Bought a pixel 6 a week ago because all the reviews recommended it and I generally like stock Android, I returned it 3 days later because it was so buggy and annoying to use. It takes two swipes to turn off Wi-Fi, you can't switch sound output unless something is actively in the media player, the fingerprint sensor was so slow and got so many false readings that just opening my phone was an annoyance, I had a slower connection periodically than my wife's iPhone SE from the same carrier, and auto rotate would periodically just not work at all. There are a lot of features I really miss but it was just so annoying to use day to day.

I think I'm very grateful for my pixel, I haven't had any bugs on apps or animations or fingerprint sensor, it actually is pretty fast and accurate. And I haven't had the S21FE but I did just watch a video from another review where it cracked quite easily (it wasn't a durability video) they literally just wanted to see what could happen with a casual drop from the pocket and the bump from the camera cracked, they did the same drop with the S21+ and nothing happened (they even dropped it a couple more times and nothing). So I guess plastic and glass have their good and bads

I have been going back and forth back and forth for literal months, but I'm at a carrier that offers the S21 FE for $399.99, and we finally have it at our store so I'm just going with that over the pixel 6. Plus I wanted that 120hz over 90 so I think I'll be happy with this choice.

I just went with the S21 FE over the Pixel 6. With the FE sales currently on, the FE was actually $30 cheaper so it seemed like the right choice. I almost got the S20 FE because it was a good deal and has the SD card slot. But in the end, I decided the Snapdragon 888 and extra year of support would be worth the extra $120. Just sad about the lack of SD card slot on the S21 FE :(

@Taurean Smoke I dont have a pixel 6 or a s22 im using a s21 FE, i have friends with pixel 4a and they have a really bad experience, pixel 4a got ruined by the latest updates, Dont get me started. The only bug i have as far as I'm concerned on the Samsung is the refresh rate bug which comes once in a while, a lock and unlock fixes that, nothing as serious as pixel bugs..

I got the S21 FE 2-3 months after release for a very good pricing (550 euros and a free wireless charger from Samsung website). At that price point ( below 600$) this phone is the best hands down, best display , 3 proper triple camera setup with no gimmicks like macro or depth. Yes, glass back would be better, but I use a case so it's irrelevant to me, instead I would say phone is lighter even with a case due to plastic back.

Thanks for this review I have just bought it yesterday and is a fantastic device. For me only of course it is ways better than iPhone 13.
Seriously I would not mind having a plastic screen instead of this stupid super hard flat glass that cracks all time at minimum shock rendering the phone ugly and unusable in most of the cases. I have an IPAD with plastic front, still working no problem and never cracked. I use to own several Smartphone with plastic front and never have cracks.
I loved that brilliant animation of Pixel glass breaking apart 🤩

@Mandy Waynick Yeah makes sense I guess in that situation. I guess they are happy to focus on the many and encourage bluetooth sales. I have some nice AKG studio monitoring phones - bit gutted I can no longer listen to files on my phone on them. Nevermind I found a very cheap £2 gadget that turns the USB port into a headphone jack if needed.

Also I would have gotten bluetooth earbuds whether I had a phone with a jack or not because I wanted something that would be out of the way that I could use while I'm doing housework and cleaning. I use studio monitor over the ear headphones and the cord is quite large and cumbersome of you are moving around a bunch.

Which FE had the jack? I have the 20 fe and I'm not missing the jack nearly as much as I thought I would. But it really depends on your lifestyle IMO, years agowhen I was in college and had the Droid Turbo I needed the jack because of my headphones, I was wearing them constantly studying and writing papers, but that was also like 2013-2015 and I didn't really have blue tooth earbuds/headphones at the time. I was really against the no headphone jack for a long time but I got the s20 fe and got bluetooth buds and a dongle for my over ear ones and I just leave it on the headphones and I don't really miss it

Switched from a Pixel 5 to the S21FE because even older pixels were buggy with updates. Bluetooth connection issues, system UI not responding and so on. So stoked on this Samsung device. It's a great phone, picked it up from T-Mobile for 500$. No regrets.

I got this phone last week on a half off promotion through my carrier. Hard to say no to that. Overall, I'm really enjoying this phone. I had the Galaxy A50 before this and it's a very noticeable upgrade and doesn't feel like a budget phone like the A50 was. I really have nothing bad to say about it.

I also prefer plastic, tbh. I agree with the overall idea, tho, although I didnt experience many bugs on Pixel yet, I don't think the FE is a worse choice. Solid device.
There's also availability, in some countries the S21FE will be cheaper and/or the only option.

I just got the S21 Fe, and other than battery, all about it's amazing. The pixel is not sold where I live, so this wasn't an option, but I do like Motorola too and this year had some interesting stuff. But tbh what did it for me is samsung trade in. I put my A71 towards the new phone and, with an additional discount, got the FE for around 300 bucks. And for that price I think it's a steal.

Samsung changes the trade-in price of the S21FE 5g every few days. When I checked yesterday they wanted $475, but when I bought mine about 6 weeks ago, they were asking $325. I also had an extra 5% off coupon so it actually cost me $310.

The S21FE 5g is an excellent phone with a gorgeous display and the 4500 mAh battery is definitely a plus. I knew I couldn't go wrong for $310 so I grabbed it right away before Samsung upped the price again. You just gotta keep checking Samsung's site every few days to get the lowest price for such an excellent phone.

@Hanin Ch. The battery life is just fine. I get about 8+ hours with continuous use; more with only occasional use, of course, and mine hasn't ever overheated at all. The SD888 chip has plenty of power for everything and the phone runs very smoothly. There's really nothing I dislike about this phone, and the price I got was just great. I thought I might miss the extra SDCard storage, but I've found it doesn't bother me at all since there are so many other extra storage options. It's definitely a very fine phone, and I'm very happy with it.

I bought a Pixel 5, and I regret it. I've had other Pixel phones and Google Nexus phones before that and loved them all. The 5 was the last one I will buy unless something unusual happens to change my mind. One of my biggest issues (there are many) is the charging. I put this down on my pixel charging stand, that I also bought from Google, and it won't charge. You have to move it just so or else you get no charging. Having a phone with wireless charging is useless if it isn't reliable. I'm planning on getting one of the new Samsung S22 phones to replace it.

@Shreyas honestly from 0 to 10 I'll give it an 8. mainly because the display could be a little bit brighter and a tad bigger. Also the speakers could be a bit louder. Otherwise camera and performance are very good. Everyday photos and social media are like any other phone. I'm not a camera geek so it does the job just fine. I'm getting over a day of battery life which is big for me. The biggest plus is that I'm not financing the thing for 2-3 years. I guarantee you my next phone will be an FE edition.

I'm actually debating between the two but holding fire to see what the S22 brings to the table. At the moment in the UK the s21fe is actually £50 cheaper after trade-in of any blower android so it's really tempting vs the pixel 6 🤔

I have to admit, I haven't noticed any stutter or bugs on my S20 FE so far and got android 12 as well. Definitely one of my most reliable phones so far.

Personally, I feel like we've been spoiled with companies releasing phones with crazy prices so now they are comfortable using plastic on 700usd phones. Honestly, I don't mind plastic on phones if the price is right and they do have their advantages, but I still think a 700usd phone deserves more premium materials. I guess I can forgive since the s21fe is around 500 at this point.

Hi Dave great videos...In India we dont officially get the Pixels but there are some good competitively priced chinese flagship phones that go on sale on Amazon or Flipkart and are priced similar or even less than the S21FE so apart from the launch price I would anytime prefer a Samsung device for being a brand that has been a consistent performer over the years and maintained good quality across the board. I think Oneplus 9RT is the obvious competitor to it which is selling for less than the S21FE at launch, apart from the aforementioned chinese flagships like Realme, Oppo, Xiaomi, etc. and to some extent the Asus ROG Phone and not considering the Iphone 12 on sale I believe this is a solid choice for Android users who want to go with a reliable everyday performer. How about a comparison with the Oneplus and Asus ROG phone.

Got the January update for my pixel 6. Went to it from my iPhone 8 and I've seen a hearty jump in improvements. Shouldn't be this buggy at all but I'm happy some of the annoying things I was dealing with got fixed

I love my Pixel 6, wonderful photos. What's bothering me are the bugs, specifically with picture in picture (while video calling which i do a lot) and minimizing YouTube premium. The windows hang so often... That's been going on for the whole year since i got it.

Dave, the issues you're having are EXACTLY the same as I'm having with my OnePlus 8. It's so freaking annoying! So I feel you there.

The adaptive brightness just randomly drops down to dim, autorotate doesn't work...fingerprint randomly doesn't read...I've factory reset it...

The issue with Samsung has never been the form factor or the hardware but the software that throttles the performance over time. A benchmark came out a while ago where this years generation iPgone SE and iPhone 11 still outperforms it because the optimisation of applications and how android in general handles ram still has miles to go

Glass simply doesn't feel safe. That's fine if people like the aesthetics, but I like being able to hold a phone without a case and it actually feels like I can hold it. The S21 FE is possibly the best smartphone I've been able to grip easily in a long time. And this is more of a return to some of the early smartphone designs, until the iPhone changed the game. The difference this time is these are much better quality plastics, not just polycarbonate junk, like flip phones.

Been using the S21 fe for the last month and it is so good. It got it for about 620 dollars and it did not disappoint. Even the exynos 2100 is faster than the Google tensor, never mind the snapdragon 888🤦🏻‍♂️

Another thing I'd like to add is that you can easily get the google camera app by side loading it on the samsung. It won't be perfect or work as seamlessly as on a pixel but, you'll get the basic software enhancement of the google camera app and most likely almost pixel grade quality snaps.

I'm currently using a OnePlus 7 Pro. For my next phone, I decided that I won't be considering any Android phones if I want to go "flagship" level. I thought that the Pixel 6 would be a solid choice for a mid-range pick (which it seems it isn't) or a OnePlus Nord 2. I could also just go straight to the bottom of the barrel for an entry-level phone. Kind of a difficult choice.

I had to get the 20FE because of chip shortages last year, and it's very solid. I'd rather have more power going to tablets where you can notice the graphics and play more. The phone is pretty much for social, GPS and email.

Galaxy A70 has been my daily driver since 2019 and it hasn't failed for once. Has handled practically everything I've thrown at it over the years.. Has had 2 OS updates and so many security patches.

I love S20FE. Honestly - great budget phone. Got it last year on Xmass sale, so got 256Gb for 128 regular price, plus all the addons... Youtube premium 3 months, and some additional discount for Samsung products... So got the buds+ as well... And the phone is still as new, rocking, fast, good camera, battery decent. :)

I remember testing phones at best buy and the first thing I noticed when picking up the pixel 6 was how buggy it was, I figured it might just be that phone so I tried another pixel 6 and it wasn't as bad, but still pretty buggy. Glad I didn't buy one considering how recommended it had been.

S21 FE is definately worth money. Snapdragon 888 already the 2nd best chip that you can get from Samsung. Its battery life is much better than late S22 after my self using experience. I can get my S21FE with only US$ 550 now in Hong Kong.

@Akshat Gosain you are wrong, it comes with Android 12 and OneUI 4 out of the box. The S21 will only be updated to Andoid 14, while the S21 FE will be updated until Android 16, that in my opinion is a BIG advantage over the S21. Also, the telefophoto camera of the S21 FE is in paper better, because it's a real 3x zoom; while the S21's telephoto is only 1.1x zoom, they call it hybrid zoom because it depends on digital zoom to reach the 3x magnification. In the end of it, it depends on the price, but these are my 2 cents

I think Samsung should be able to push 4 years of upgrades to S21, when they could push 3 years of upgrades for S21 FE (because they are supported by the same SoC). I would rather go with the S21, than S21 FE considering the former is retailing at a similar price as S21 FE and would take the chance of an additional year of software upgrade.

I've been using a Pixel 6 for some time and for whatever reason have none of the mentioned issues. The only thing I am waiting to be fixed is the high bit rate LDAC connection being buggy. I do think the S21 FE is a good phone (the display is one of the plus points), especially the plastic which I think is superior to glass backs.

Thanks for sharing. Totally agree with the plastic vs glass: I just don't get the whole 'it looks and feels cheap' thing. That aside, I absolutely always buy some kind of phone cover to protect my expensive purchase. So, who cares if the back is made from glass, plastic or cardboard?

I was just coming on to say this. Most people protect their phones with cases or covers now, unless they're getting the Nokia XR20 or another ultra-tough device. One drop onto concrete or tiles and you won't care what your pretty phone's back is made of!

I've owned the pixel 6 since launch, owned a pixel 3 xl before. I've had a few bugs(apps crashing and the auto rotate) but overall the experience with the phone has been really excellent.

And I have to say that I.m.o a "glass back" is not a "premium feature"!!!
If I stand to choose between two phones where everything is equal but one has a glass back and the other has plastic I would choose plastic EVERY time... Using glass on a device that You handle "constantly" and are likely to drop, or have "slide out/off" pockets, tables etc etc, is proof positive that You prioritise looks before function... Which I would argue is stupid if You have a phone for it's utility! But then again it seems that many phones today are equally much used as status symbols and "baubles" and I guess for that glass back is the ""better"" choice.
And Yea Google definitively dropped the ball with the Pixel6

Two thoughts. One, I opted for the S20 FE last year and have been very happy with it. Getting it for $499 made it an even better buy. Two, the S21 FE coming out so close to the launch of the new S22's should result in some aggressive discounts being applied to it, so in the end it may be less expensive than the Pixel 6.

I downgraded from my S22 Ultra to the S21FE. My hand isn't in pain which is great. All jokes aside, I'm loving it. Its small and compact, the camera is decent and the display is beautiful. Let's see how the battery manages.

Well said... Bought it at half the price with an offer,... It's just complete and works perfectly! With a. Over you will not feel when the CPU gets a bit hot... In WiFi is OK, just in 5g becomes a bit hot... It's snap 888, here temperatures are fine, other phones with the same CPU are just not usable if stressed!

I bought a pixel 6 a week ago and had so many issues with it. The fingerprint sensor is terrible and frequently I have to try three times before it works, auto rotate would periodically just not work, I had a poor connection frequently, and some of the user interface things sacrifice functionality for aesthetic and made it really annoying to use. I swapped to an s21 and put a stock Android skin on it and I am much happier.

@Roah It's still factual if you don't have a bug, that's my point. MKBHD has also posted "factual" bugs on the Surface Duo 2, some of which I've not seen any other user or YouTuber able to replicate.

Don't pretend that sharing criticism is somehow more valid than sharing praise. Like my joycon example: you assume every phone to be broken.

And updates don't appear out of nowhere, MKBHD's tweet is waaay too recent to be the cause of the update.

The real Question is do we get S21 FE over the S20 FE 5G. It's about 30% cheaper during sales and comes with a snapdragon 865 instead of the Exynos 2100 (in India). This could be the real S21 FE killer unless Samsung Kills it soon.

Check out the comparison videos between the Snapdragon and exynos. I was worried about the same thing. Turns out that the difference between 888 and 2100 in the s21fe is barely noticeable.

I am not surprised by this review of the Pixel 6. I had a great experience with earlier Pixel devices; the Pixel 3 especially. The 4 and 5 were progressively worse. I've been happy with the S20 FE so far, but the updates with Samsung are basically security updates only. I think they try and focus on a good stable initial release (which is okay when they get it right, which they haven't always) where as Google has a "ship it and fix it" approach (I guess 1 out of 2 ain't bad, right Big G?).

I recently bought Pixel 6 (previously Samsung s10, s7, nexus 6, galaxy nexus...) and I'm in love with the phone. But I agree with you, there are bugs. And it has to be called out. I just hope that they won't screw it and they'll fix it. I can never understand how programmers of that magnitude can release such a buggy software.

I honestly picked the FE. over a pixel because idc what the numbers say but for me the FE suits me a hell of a lot better than the pixel and I literally live with it I dont think I would need another phone for years coz this phone is just in my opinion amazing

Bought S21FE (previously using A52) as i want to feeling a bit of premium phones feeling since i never bought the 'pricier' one (at least where i lived), and yeah its good, especially the display, its amazing, the only thing i hope they improve is the camera when capturing images on night/low light, it didn't deliver as good as expected, hopefully software update can improve this.

Today I've bought an S21FE (256Gb version), it sales around 819€ here normally but it was on sale for 675€, I've read about it and about the 'lack' of new features against the normal S21, but then I thought hey what the hell, this is a new phone, I'm coming from a Sony XZ1 (4 years of loyal service!), so I'm buying the flagship, and I've gotta say after a few hours of using and installing things, it's great ! :), it's highly recommended !

Long time (10 years) Samsung user switched to pixel 6 on launch. Best decision I've ever made! No duplicate apps for literally everything. Clean android. I agree about the finger print being slow, but it was never buggy. All you need to do is keep your finger on the scanner for little msec more. I just have 1 bug in my pixel- calls dropping while switching between carrier to wifi in bad service areas. Otherwise it's just a beautiful and bang for buck phone.

Coming from Xiaomi device, this phone has better software and features that I like (Bixby Routines). Screen can stutter a bit while scrolling but it looks like an Android 12 problem. I use exynos version because SD is not available in my country but it is fast enough.

I think pixel 6 is very buggy because of the new processor Google Tensor which I think it's optimized for AI tasks.
So it's natural to be buggy at first because of its new nature. I believe it will be A LOT better after time with software updates between 6 to 18 month.
It's just like MIUI in Redmi phones that was so buggy a few years ago and get better and better in years.
