The Seed
F.O.I Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hey there brother
Where's your lover?
Never let him go

Hey there sister
Grab your chick yeah
Love is all she knows
Hateful brother
There's another
Never letting go
Heavy fisted
Hope resistant
Love is all we know

In wastelands
That never change

We fix it
And grow a new again

Overall Meaning

The song "The Seed" by F.O.I. / Vernon Smith is a powerful reminder of the essence of love and unity that should always guide us in our personal relationships and our collective endeavors. The opening lines are an appeal to the listener's sense of brotherhood and stewardship - asking where their lover is and urging them never to let go of the precious bond they have. This is an important message because relationships are often tested by external factors and internal conflicts, and it takes a strong commitment to keep them going.

The next verse shifts the focus to sisterhood and encourages women to hold on to their female companions, and embrace the nurturing and uplifting qualities of love. Then comes a somber reminder of the negative forces that can threaten our relationships, from hateful siblings who might try to interfere, to heavy-handed authority figures who might try to coerce or intimidate us. Yet despite all this, the chorus reminds us that love is all we know, and that even in the wastelands of life, we can still find the strength to fix things and grow anew.

I can speak personally about one extinct variety of watermelon. My grandpa back in the 1980s? to 1990s grew a watermelon variety. I don't know the early history of it or what it was originally, but he saved the seeds from the best melons every year to plant the following year. The end result in the late 1990s was a watermelon that was just the right size for one person, could fit in the fridge easily, looked wonderful, and sugar sweet with absolute loads of watermelon flavor. It was and has always been the best tasting watermelon that has ever touched my tongue. I was just a kid and didn't know just how important that variety was. One year he quit gardening, a few years later he died. Not sure what happened to the seeds he had but they are gone. At least a decade of selective breeding with a result of probably the best watermelon to ever exist, all gone. I don't even know if I could replicate it either. I've looked and looked for any varieties that look similar and none seem to exist. All are too big or weird color rind or just not a good flavor. The watermelon from the store is a joke.

They have watermelons like you describe in Thailand, small super sweet. They also have pineapples there the size of a grapefruit also the sweetest you have ever tasted and low acidity.
Take a look into Thailand.

@@willofscott4611 Any leads I could follow? Seed exchanges? Seed shops? Personal sellers? Names of the variety or varieties? Any other information?

Look around online. I'll bet you can find a decent replacement. I do not do this type of thing, but i do know there are folks that do this.
Your cause is not lost, just a lot of work!
good luck!

I'm a little creeped out right now. I started collecting seeds, berries, and learning about local plants and started gardening for the first time this year. I'm super obsessed. And I'm learning how to make ancient pottery to store seeds in. Because i just want to and it feels right. Now i see that is of the upmost importance to not only do these things, but teach my children the same. Thank you. I am crying. This is going to be shown to my family 100%

Ancient pottery is best to store everything.

I encourage you to video journal some of it of you wouldn't mind. That would be so beneficial to many. I have seeds, but have not started gardening yet. This is inspiring. I'm subscribing to you ahead of time, just incase you do.

@callmethreeone

Teach them about DNA, no matter how you store a seed it will degrade. If your aim is to create an archive DNA under proper storage conditions will out live a seed stored in pottery by about 1, 070,000 years. There are several archives like this that have been created in locations around the world. The oldest seed ever germinated was roughly 2000 years old it was preserved in very extraordinary conditions. Smears could be sprouted 1,000,000 years from now in-vitro using DNA. It's the new ancient pottery. Seeds you save now are modified, having this knowledge will also help you in many different ways if your goals are other than archiving.
