Because I Love You
F.R Davis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Gee, but it's tough to be broke, kid.
It's not a joke, kid, it's a curse.
My luck is changing, it's gotten from
simply rotten to something worse
Who knows, some day I will win too.
I'll begin to reach my prime.

Now though I see what our end is,
All I can spend is just my time.

I can't give you anything but love, baby.
That's the only thing I've plenty of,baby.

Dream awhile, scheme awhile
We're sure to find

Happiness and I guess
All those things you've always pined for.

Gee I'd like to see you looking swell, baby.
Diamond bracelets Woolworth doesn't sell, baby.

Till that lucky day you know darned well, baby.
I can't give you anything but love.

Rome wasn't built in a day, kid.
You have to pay, kid, for what you get.
But I am willing to wait, dear,
Your little mate, dear, will not forget.

You have a lifetime before you.
I'll adore you, come what may.

Please don't be blue for the present,
When it's so pleasant to hear you say

I can't give you anything but love, baby.
That's the only thing I've plenty of,baby.

Dream awhile, scheme awhile
We're sure to find

Happiness and I guess
All those things you've always pined for.

Gee I'd like to see you looking swell, baby.
Diamond bracelets Woolworth doesn't sell, baby.

Till that lucky day you know darned well, baby.
I can't give you anything but love.

Overall Meaning

The song "Because I Love You" by F.R Davis is a melancholic yet hopeful song about feeling broke and unable to provide material things for his loved one, but still holding onto the hope that things will get better someday. The song begins with the singer acknowledging the harsh reality of being broke, but then he reassures his loved one that his luck will change and he will win someday. He admits that all he can give her right now is his time and love. The chorus repeats the line "I can't give you anything but love, baby" which emphasizes the theme of the song - that love is the most important thing and that it can overcome the difficulties of being broke.

The second verse continues with the theme of waiting and being patient for good things to come. The singer reassures his loved one that he is willing to wait and that she has a lifetime before her. He urges her not to despair but rather to dream of a better future, where they will find happiness and all the things that she has always desired. The chorus is repeated again, with the addition of the line "Dream awhile, scheme awhile, we're sure to find" which once again places emphasis on the idea of holding onto hope and dreaming of a better future.

Overall, "Because I Love You" is a touching song that beautifully expresses the sentiment that love is the most important thing in life, and that material possessions aren't what truly matter.

How I wish we had more melodic heartfelt songs like this these days instead of the screaming yelling trash we hear now. They remind me of the simpler music from the past.

I totally googled this song. This was playing in the background at home when I was little. Good to hear the original song here just as I did as a child.
I love the internet.
I'll be going to do some charity work later this month and me and my co workers are teaching our elders how to use technology like phones, tablets and laptop. How to avoid scams when buying stuff and basic security risks online. Love chatting with those much older. I love to hear about their lives.
