In the fall of 2002, during a Latvian National Television golf tournament, three artists, Martin Freiman, Lauris Raynix and Yana Kay, started discussing the project and the trio F.L.Y. was born. Their song, “Hello from Mars”, was written by Martin and Lauris, and recorded soon afterwards.
Each individual F.L.Y. member has a successful musical career. Yana and Lauri are solo artists and have each released an album; Martin is lead singer of the band Tumsa, which has three albums to its credit.
Yana, Lauri and Martin have all participated separately in the Latvian Eurovision Song Contest preliminaries, but their big break – the chance to represent Latvia at the Eurovision Finals – came only this year, when they participated as a group.
After spending time together promoting their Eurovision Song Contest entry “Hello From Mars”, F.L.Y. started jamming and creating new songs. The result is a complete album, which will be released in Latvia at the beginning of May, and in Europe following the big night (May 24) in Riga.
Give It Up

From yourself
And I'm not the one to
Nurse you back to health
I wasn't there when you needed me
Now I am waiting for you down here in
In your own Hell
In your Hell
Like ammo, cos I gave up too quickly
There's no denying that your time is shallow
So you'll never forgive me
Give it up, give it up, give it up
I'm so angry
Why is it so damn tough to
Tell me how you feel?
And why was it not enough
To know that we were real?
You cannot breathe
Wouldn't try or tell me why
Now all I've left you with is my
Is my betrayal
My betrayal
So you can throw your words in my face
Like ammo, cos I gave up too quickly
There's no denying that your time is shallow
So you'll never forgive me
Give it up, give it up, give it up
I'm so sorry
So sorry
You threw me to the ground, you know?
Scrambling for light in the dark
I was only ever trying to help, you know?
But you wouldn't reciprocate
All the efforts I made, all the efforts I made
All the efforts I made, it's too late
It's too late, it's too late, it's too late
It's too late, it's too late, it's too late
It's too late now
So you can throw your words in my face
Like ammo, cos I gave up too quickly
There's no denying that your time is shallow
So you'll never forgive me
Give it up, give it up, give it up
You're so lonely
(It's too late, it's too late
It's too late, it's too late now)
So lonely
(It's too late, it's too late
It's too late, it's too late now)
The lyrics of F.l.y's song "Give it up" depict a broken relationship and the aftermath of betrayal. The song is told from the perspective of someone who was once there for their partner, but failed to provide enough support when they needed it the most. The opening lines say, "I'm not the one who'll save you from yourself, and I'm not the one to nurse you back to health," suggesting that the singer has come to terms with their limitations and is no longer willing or able to play the role of a savior or caregiver.
The song explores themes of remorse, regret, guilt, and the lingering pain of a relationship that has ended badly. The singer admits to giving up too quickly, which led to their partner feeling betrayed and hurt. The line, "Now all I've left you with is my betrayal," highlights the weight of the singer's actions and how their choices have forever altered the course of their relationship.
Despite the pain of the situation, the singer seems to be holding onto hope that their partner may someday forgive them. However, as the chorus repeats the phrase "give it up," it is clear that forgiveness may not be forthcoming.
Overall, "Give it up" is a poignant and emotional portrayal of the aftermath of a failed relationship. It highlights the importance of communication, effort, and support in any relationship and reminds us of the consequences that can result when we fail to provide these things.
