Donkey
FAMY Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
a guy, a move
Goliath brood
come
Guy gonna swear
man unaware
see if we care
man isn't near
Famy is here
Donkey
Lie, you're crude
die, kaboom!
a fire, a room
bum
This ass is mine!
a seat, a ride
a fire behind
come
Guy gonna swear
man unaware
see if we care
Guy gonna fear
man isn't near
Famy is here
Donkey
Don't bludgeon me, bum
There's light in my palm
The lyrics of FAMY's "Donkey" are somewhat enigmatic, with phrases that seem disassociated from each other yet convey a sense of urgency and intense emotion. The first stanza begins with "shy secluded" which creates a sense of isolation and introversion. It could be interpreted as someone who keeps themselves to themselves, maybe out of fear or out of a desire to protect themselves. Then, "a guy, a move" could indicate someone who desires to take action, to make a change in their life but because they feel shy and secluded, the move is hesitant. The next line, "Goliath brood come" is a significant biblical allusion. Many people know Goliath as the giant slain by David with a small rock, however, Goliath's family were also known for their formidable size and fighting ability. Therefore, this line could be interpreted as something ominous on the horizon, something much larger and more dangerous than the singer.
In the second stanza, the theme of fear becomes even more concrete. The line, "guy gonna swear, man unaware" could be interpreted as someone who will make an oath, vow or promise but who is unaware of the real-life consequences, and the cost of what they have sworn or promised. "See if we care, guy gonna fear," could be viewed as a statement of defiance in the face of fear, a challenge to anyone who is trying to scare or intimidate them. FAMY then comes in with a statement of conviction, "Man isn't near, FAMY is here, Donkey." This refers to the sense of security that comes from the presence of others, especially from those who care about you.
Possible interpretations of the third stanza are very apocalyptic; with the use of words like "die," "kaboom," and "fire." The line, "This ass is mine!" can be seen as the singer's refusal to be pushed around, and a decision to take whatever they can in the face of the oncoming destruction. The line, "There's light in my palm" may signify that no matter how bad things get, there is still hope.
