Calling All Boys
FLIRTS THE Lyrics

Now I'm not the type that easily cries, uh huh
I must admit there was a tear in my eye
Now I know that I love you
And I know I'll be true too

Calling all boys, I'm calling all boys
I love you, I do
Calling all boys, I'm calling all boys
I need you, I do

Now I'm not the type that's easily swayed, uh huh
I must admit that I wanted to stay
Yes I know that I want you
And I'll always be true too

Calling all boys, I'm calling all boys
I love you, I do
Calling all boys, I'm calling all boys
I need you, I do

Hey boys I think you're cute
In tight blue jeans and french cut suits
Outta sight, outta mind
You're quite a catch, you're quit a find

Oh you're slick, oh you're shick
You're so hot, you're so slick

You got class, you got style
Wanted you all the while

I'm not the type that easily cries

But I must admit there was a tear in my eye

Now I know that I love you
And I know I'll be true too

Calling all boys, I'm calling all boys
I love you, I do
Calling all boys, I'm calling all boys
I need you, I do

Calling all boys, I'm calling all boys
I love you, I do
Calling all boys, I'm calling all boys
I need you, I do

Calling all boys, I'm calling all boys
I love you, I do
Calling all boys, I'm calling all boys
I need you, I do

[Fade]
Calling all boys, I'm calling all boys
I love you, I do
Calling all boys, I'm calling all boys
I need you, I do

Calling all boys, I'm calling all boys

I love you, I do
Calling all boys, I'm calling.....

Overall Meaning

The Flirts released "Calling All Boys" in 1982 as a single from their debut album "10¢ A Dance". The upbeat and catchy tune is a classic example of the synth-pop genre popular in the early 1980s.

The lyrics of the song express the singer's admiration for boys and her desire to connect with them. The chorus "Calling all boys, I'm calling all boys, I love you, I do, Calling all boys, I'm calling all boys, I need you, I do" sounds like a rallying cry to all the boys out there to pay attention and respond to her affection. The verses reveal the singer's vulnerability and her feelings of love for the boys, which she expresses with the lines "Now I know that I love you, And I know I'll be true too" and "Yes I know that I want you, And I'll always be true too". The song showcases the confidence and independence of the singer who is not afraid to express her feelings and make the first move towards initiating a romance.

The upbeat and infectious pop melody of the song celebrates the free-spirited youth culture of the early 80s, the disco-influenced sound, and the emergence of electronic music. The song became popular on the dance floor and radio stations across North America, Europe, and Asia. The Flirts rose to fame as a trio of attractive and talented singers, who performed with playful dance moves and colorful outfits.

Side B on the The Flirts "Jukebox" 45rpm single. Got it for Christmas 1982 and still got it in my possession.

It was played in the Disco at the local youth club (for 12-15 year olds) one evening in 1982, which is why I wished for it on Christmas.

Back then, when you heard a new song, your only option was to listen insanely carefully when the DJ in the radio or at Disco mentioned who'd just been playing and then memorize it forever, so you knew what to wish for on Christmas, for your birthday or if you went to the library.

If you missed an opportunity or if the title/band wasn't named, months or years could pass by before you heard it again. It's true.

Hard times, but that's how it worked for me back then being a minor or teenager...unless you were lucky and had access to a ...yeah.... a jukebox......, where the titles and names of the artists were written onto labes....or your brother was a DJ. Also if friends/classmates knew who played this or that.......or if they were rich enough to have a collection of singles at home.

Once in 1981-82 I was lucky. Borrowed a mix-tape cassette from a classmate with titles and band names written on the J-card and the Lord is my witness, that ..... that's how Chilly "Simply a Love Song" was remembered for decades until YouTube came along and made everything easy as a dream.
