That Girl
FM Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And desperation fills your eyes
Hold her in your arms
and don't let go
Can you taste defeat
Will you lose the game
Fight till you win
Don't give in
That girl
Always takes the best of you
That girl
Will you ever let her go
When you hear her calling out your name
Thinks about you
Cries without you
Hold her in your arms and don't let go
You've tried so many times before
Smell the fear as she closed the door
Just to hold her in your arms once more
Chorus
That girl
Always takes the best of you
That girl
Will you ever let her go
That girl
Can't you see she's using you
That girl
Will you ever let her go
When the words she says turn out lies
Desperation fills your eyes
Hold her in your arms
Don't let go
Don't ever let her go
Chorus
That girl
That girl
That girl
That girl
That girl
That girl
Don't you ever let her go
The song "That Girl" by FM is a ballad about a person who is struggling with a bittersweet love. The lyrics depict the singer's dilemmas and feelings when he is with the woman he loves. The song starts by describing how he feels when she lies to him, and how he would still cling onto her when he is desperate. The lyrics suggest that he cannot resist her charm even when she deceives him.
As the song progresses, the singer's struggles with his love intensify. He is seen fighting with himself to push away the overwhelming emotions that his partner invokes. The chorus of the song asks if he will ever be able to let go of the woman who always "takes the best of him." He acknowledges that she is "using him" but cannot bring himself to walk away. The song ends with the singer urging himself never to let go of her, despite the struggles he faces.
In summary, "That Girl" is a song about a love that is complicated and painful yet hard to let go of. The song's message is clear; the singer cannot let go of this woman, even when he is aware that their relationship is doing him more harm than good.

I discovered FM in December 1986 as a US Army brat living in Germany...the band instantly became one of my favorites! I managed to see them in concert at a later date. This band produced the most amazing tunes! 35 years later, I still get chills hearing their songs...

I'd pay real money to see Maiden for a seventh time (of a seventh time?) if they added this to the setlist. Shame they never play covers live, unlike Priest😢
