UTOPIA
FTSE Lyrics

Get out. now
Get out. yeah

So could someone please tell me what the fucking point is,
Of trying to do good man cus I swear that it's pointless,
And I'm resigned to the fact that everyone here's out for themselves,
So I might as well just look out for myself.
And sometimes I buy into it,
And I guess that makes me a hypocrite,
But at least I'm aware that the clothes that I wear aren't really going to make me feel any better about it.
Possessions possessing a whole generations psyche,
Apple, Adidas and Nike.

Fuck money,
Fuck clothes,
Fuck cars,
And fuck the world,
Fuck it all man,
It's all false,
Fuck it all man,
It's worthless.

Cus we're all so socially unconscious,
Some naive but mostly obnoxious,
Gonna get what we want, no matter what it costs us,
Our pride, our dignity, our ethics, our conscience.

So we can all try and act like we are selflessly amending,
The problems around us while we carry on offending,
We inherited this travesty of a society,
And if it was up to me I'd burn it all down and not bother starting again.
Values based on commodity,
A price on each of our heads,
Greed goes rewarded,
I made a choice and I live with it, makes me just as bad as them,
Utopia literally translates as no place,
So what's the fucking point then.

Fuck money,
Fuck clothes,
Fuck cars,
And fuck the world,
Fuck it all man,
It's all false,
Fuck it all man,
It's worthless.

Cus we're all so socially unconscious,
Some naive but mostly obnoxious,
Gonna get what we want, no matter what it costs us,
Our pride, our dignity, our ethics, our conscience.

Utopia,
Give me hope that you are real,
Utopia,
Cus I know that you're not here.

Cus we're all so socially unconscious,
Some naive but mostly obnoxious,
Gonna get what we want, no matter what it costs us,
Our pride, our dignity, our ethics, our conscience.

Everything's disposable,
Everything's replaceable,
Everyone is disposable and
Everyone is replaceable.
There is no point where idealism meets pragmatism,
And there is no point where we think that this enough,

there is no credible compromise and there is no hope,
The only way is out

Overall Meaning

The main theme of FTSE's song Utopia is disillusionment with modern society and the search for an ideal world. The lyrics depict a sense of hopelessness in trying to create a better world as the singer finds it pointless to try and do good because everyone is out for themselves. The chorus contains the repeated lines "Fuck money, fuck clothes, fuck cars and fuck the world, it's all false, it's worthless" which accentuate the disillusionment and cynicism towards materialism and societal values.

The verses criticize the consumerist ideology of modern society and the way people are driven by possessions, emphasizing how the ownership of material objects only temporarily satisfies an emptiness that cannot be filled. The song further dissects the broken social fabrics of modern society with lines like "Values based on commodity, a price on each of our heads, greed goes rewarded" implying that materialism has destroyed the moral compass of modern society leading to a moral bankruptcy.

The lyrics of Utopia describe a search for a world free of societal pressures and materialism. While the utopia that the singer searches for is not present in the current world, it is seen as a hope and a necessity to escape the morally and societally bankrupt world that is described in the verses.
