I'm in Love
Fabian Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning | Line by Line Meaning

Strange, dear, but true, dear
When I'm close to you, dear
The stars fill the sky
So in love with you am I

Even without you
My arms fold about you
You know, darling, why

So in love with you am I

In love with the night mysterious
The night when you first were there

In love with my joy delirious
When I knew that you could care

So taunt me, and hurt me
Deceive me, desert me
I'm yours, 'til I die
So in love
So in love
So in love with you, my love, am I

In love with the night mysterious
The night when you first were there

In love with my joy delirious
When I knew that you could care

So taunt me, and hurt me
Deceive me, desert me
I'm yours, 'til I die
So in love (so in love)

So in love (so in love)
So in love with you, my love, am I

Overall Meaning

The song "I'm in Love" by Fabian is a romantic ballad that expresses the singer's deep love and devotion for his lover. The first two lines of the song, "Strange, dear, but true, dear / When I'm close to you, dear," suggest that the singer is amazed at how love can make him feel so close to his partner. The reference to the stars filling the sky is a common metaphor used to describe the intensity of love.

In the chorus, the singer declares that he is "in love with the night mysterious," which may suggest that he is drawn to the magic and mystery of falling in love. He also expresses his joy and happiness in knowing that his lover cares for him, saying that he is "in love with [his] joy delirious."

The bridge of the song takes on a more dramatic tone, as the singer declares that he is willing to endure any pain or hardship for the sake of his love. He asks his lover to "taunt" him, "hurt" him, "deceive" him, and even "desert" him, but still declares his undying devotion.

Overall, "I'm in Love" is a tender and passionate tribute to the power of love and its ability to transform individuals. The lyrics convey a sense of wonder, joy, and devotion, which are enhanced by Fabian's rich, emotive vocals.

Fabian admitted that he could not sing and Chancellor Records fixed his voice so that he could sing and make records - This side and the flip side, "Shivaree", proves the raw voice of Fabian before his fix-up.

My My

Personally, I've defended Fabian many times simply for the fact I liked the songs he sang. His not so great singing was perfect for the songs he sang, but truth is he still couldn't sing very well even after these recordings that you say was raw and that Chancellor fixed. In fact, Paul McCartney was absolutely cruel talking about Frankie Avalon and Fabian about their singing. Now I personally heard this interview so I'm not telling you what I read or what somebody told me. I heard and seen the video on youTube maybe 7 to 10 years ago. But a couple of years ago I looked for the interview to let a McCartney fan hear it and it is no where to be found. My only conclusion is, is that McCartney got so much flack about his mean spirited verbal assault on their talent that he probably bought out the owners of that interview and took it off youTube or anywhere else. It was so disgusting how he was degrading Avalon and Fabian. Truth is Avalon could sing and the dude was talented as he played the trumpet very well. The only thing I can think of a giant of an entertainer like McCartney talking down to these guys is the fact he was jealous that they probably, especially Fabian, made it more on their looks than anything else. As if that is something new in entertainment!!!!
