1) Fabiano Anthony Forte (born February 6, 1943, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania),is an American teen idol of the late 1950s and early 1960s. He rose to national prominence after performing several times on American Bandstand. In total, he charted 11 hit singles on the Billboard Hot 100.
abian was discovered in 1957 by Bob Marcucci and Peter DeAngelis, owners of Chancellor Records. At the time, record producers were looking to the South Philadelphia neighborhoods in search of teenage talents with good looks, and Frankie Avalon, also of South Philly, suggested Fabian as a possibility.
With songwriters Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman, Fabian released a series of hit singles for Chancellor Records including "I'm a Man", "Hound Dog Man", a #9 hit in the U.S., "Turn Me Loose" (U.S. #9), and his biggest hit, "Tiger", which reached number 3 in the U.S. charts. Other singles that charted included "String Along", "About This Thing Called Love" and "This Friendly World", which reached #12 on the U.S. charts.
His career in music basically ended after he bought out of his contract with Marcucci after signing a seven-year contract with 20th Century Fox. During the payola scandal of the 1960s, Fabian testified before Congress that his recordings had been doctored electonically to significantly improve his voice.

Fabian was a young man found for his great good looks and pushed into the music business to live the dream for some other guy…. what this young man did was work hard to support his entire family as the sole provider….. remember Fabian was only around fourteen years old when he started this singing stuff….. I admire his guts and determination to stick to it and make a go of it all…. just would like people to stop knocking Fabian, he's wonderful….. when was the last time one of you knockers got on stage and sung up a storm? Give Fabian a brake people.

You are right and no one defended him. My wife and millions of other women loved his looks; that is the only reason he was a success. Fabian was discovered by a Philadelphia record produce as Fabian was sitting on his front porch. Fabian's family was poor because his father was disabled. When Fabian started singing he became sole support of his entire family. His real name was Fabian Forte. Unlike Andy Kaufman Fabian did not become famous by making fun of people who have accents.

At the age of 13 I adored Fabian as did every other young teenage girl that I knew. It must have been irrevelant that he couldn't sing. In the 70's he did a nude centerfold for Cosmopolitan that was quite impressive.

I don't get the "joke." The other side ("Hound Dog Man") went to No. 9, as compared to No. 12 for "This Friendly World," and "Hound Dog Man" charted in the national Top 100 (and the Top 40) for two more weeks than this song. In many markets, both sides were in the Top 10 simultanously.

She appeared in 35 films between 1949 and 1989. After filming North To Alaska and Walk on the Wild Side she Moved to Switzerland in 1962, she continued making films in Europe until her death.

It was originally intended as a serious love song, and not the lighthearted fun song that Andy Kaufman turned it into. I do enjoy Andy's version alot, but he had an entirely different take in the song. Fabian's version was about romance and was much more serious. Fabian's version did hit the charts, but not the Top 40 and did not go on to be one of the 2 or 3 most memorable hits that he had.

Actually, Fabian is pretty good here. No Ricky Nelson (whom he was often for mistaken for and compared to), but not terrible. No, he's not now and never was a great singer, by his own admission. But he's certainly not as bad as some people make him out to be, or as bad as some who try to call themselves singers today.

Fabian didn't have a voice, he couldn't sing well. He was made of character end 50's and early 60's before British Mersey Beat. But.. it isn't so serious :)

The Record Producers could add Echo chambers, strong background singers, jazzy arrangements, you name it ~ he could NOT sing, not even passably well. I do not dislike him at all, he's a good guy and turned into a pretty good actor actually. But, sorry, no trust me he could not sing.

Terrible singer according to this video. His voice is flat the entire song. They try to cover it up with lots of reverb. Andy Kaufman actually sang it better.

I think it's an insult, offensive, and a disgrace to knock a man who made it big in show business. A man who had to provide for his family at a young age, cause his father injured his hand and could not work anymore. Why don't you go judge those ignorant people, and not worry about my comment. I agree money is not all that measures a persons worth, however, a person who goes around insulting and degrading an artist, to me, has very poor character.

sherom, It doesn’t matter what his story is man, if people find that his music sucked, they find that it sucked. People are criticizing his music, not him. Also, anyone that puts anything out to the world can be criticized. It’s just a part of any art form. Also, about your last point, it’s just people’s opinions dude. They have the right to one and also the right to voice it. They’re not calling him an asshole, they’re just saying they didn’t like his singing.
