1) Fabiano Anthony Forte (born February 6, 1943, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania),is an American teen idol of the late 1950s and early 1960s. He rose to national prominence after performing several times on American Bandstand. In total, he charted 11 hit singles on the Billboard Hot 100.
abian was discovered in 1957 by Bob Marcucci and Peter DeAngelis, owners of Chancellor Records. At the time, record producers were looking to the South Philadelphia neighborhoods in search of teenage talents with good looks, and Frankie Avalon, also of South Philly, suggested Fabian as a possibility.
With songwriters Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman, Fabian released a series of hit singles for Chancellor Records including "I'm a Man", "Hound Dog Man", a #9 hit in the U.S., "Turn Me Loose" (U.S. #9), and his biggest hit, "Tiger", which reached number 3 in the U.S. charts. Other singles that charted included "String Along", "About This Thing Called Love" and "This Friendly World", which reached #12 on the U.S. charts.
His career in music basically ended after he bought out of his contract with Marcucci after signing a seven-year contract with 20th Century Fox. During the payola scandal of the 1960s, Fabian testified before Congress that his recordings had been doctored electonically to significantly improve his voice.

I met him a few times over the years. He was friends with my father the singer Jimmie Rodgers (Honeycomb, Kisses Sweeter Than Wine). Fabian was a very nice man and seemed to keep his time in show business in perspective.

Your dad was also a hero to many of us. Morris Levy was putting together a great artist roster at Roulette at the time (Hugo And Luigi, Jimmy Bowen, Buddy Knox, the Playmates, etc.) and it was ALWAYS a pleasure to see a new Jimmie Rodgers release (LOVE what Roulette/Forum did with Oh Oh I'm Falling In Love Again when they turned it into a reprocessed stereo mix on a compilation album!). I followed your father's work all the way through to the end. One of the absolute masters.

I’m beginning work on a series of projects featuring unreleased songs that are in dads catalogue up to 2019 two years before his passing. He wrote something nearly everyday. He is definitely missed.

Philadelphia boy along with Frankie Avalon and Bobby Rydell. Dick Clark featured him on American Bandstand a lot and was instrumental in getting him noticed. Very nice guy. Fabian, Frankie and Bobby toured for many years as “The Golden Boys of Bandstand” I saw their act sometime in the 80’s. They were very entertaining.

Fabian actually hated the whole experience of being a "Teen Idol". He knew he was not musically talented but his family needed money. In 1957, he was spotted on the street by Bob Marcucci, who was already managing Frankie Avalon. Marcucci later wrote his own story which was told in the 1980 movie "The Idolmaker". He just picked out guys for their looks and saw if teen girls screamed. Fortunately, Marcucci was a rare honest record label owner (Chancellor Records) and manager. After 3 years, Fabian had made quite a lot of money. He was able to buyout his contract ($65K) which saved his sanity and maybe his life. He signed with DOT records, but had no success there.

The main characters are thinly disguised portrayals of Marcucci, Avalon and Fabian, but the events depicted in the movie are mainly fictional. I think Fabian sued over that, claiming that it was damaging his reputation.

@@haraldtrittner4396 You are welcome! "The Idolmaker" also has a notable soundtrack by one of the original writers of early 60's era, Jeff Barry. He and his wife Ellie Greenwich wrote many "Girl Group" standards ("Da Doo Ron Ron", "Be My Baby", "Leader of the Pack" etc.). I guess using the original tunes of Avalon or Fabian would be legally dangerous.

His eyes were rolling in all directions, trying to make an eye contact with everyone in the audience. 😂 I knew him from a short episode of an act, in a movie called TEN LITTLE INDIANS. He was the first one to choke his little self to death. Ten little Indians went out to dine, one choked his little self to death and then there were nine. 😂 This line was part of the song he sung in the movie before he died from Cyanide in his drink.

Fabiano Forte was a teen idol whose vocal abilities were very limited. He was a real phenomenon, a kind of brand, maybe an early equivalent of some of today's Instagram celebrities - thanks to a well-orchestrated marketing campaign.
Nevertheless, this is a nice song, quite typical of the year 1959.

I'll bet Veronica Cartwright was envied by lots of teenage girls when Fabian guest starred in a particular episode of "Daniel Boone" in 1965 in which her character, Jemima Boone, catches Fabian's character's eye. In one scene, they almost begin making out but they are interrupted.

It has been said that a lie repeated often enough is eventually taken to be the truth by many. When Fabian Forte made his debut for Chancellor Records with Be My Steady Date in 1958, the pundits were out there in full force, many of them dismissing him with less than charitable observations. But based on what standard? That he didn't sing like Mario Lanza or some other vocal powerhouse who sang in other genres? Every vocalist has their own unique attributes. In Fabian's case, he was masterful at the art of attitude. An attitude that basically said, "I don't care what the naysayers think". And the faithful agreed. Think about it. Here he is a year later, on what was arguably the biggest stage in the world at that time (The Ed Sullivan Show). And singing Tiger. Yes, singing. NOT lip synching to the record, as many did. Before long, he was starring in films like Hound Dog Man, North To Alaska and Ride The Wild Surf, in roles that demanded more than a minimum mastery of the dramatic element. Soon after, garage rock legends the New Colony Six saluted him on the back cover of their second album as one of their inspirations. And today, more than sixty years after this performance, he is still out there with a vengeance as one-third of the Golden Boys with Lou Christie (who succeeded the late Bobby Rydell in that role) and Frankie Avalon. Don't just take whatever the mainstream media says at face value. No two ways about it. Fabian Forte is one of the greats.

You can see he’s nervous and still not comfortable and skilled as a singer or performer on stage. He’s quoted as saying he didn’t feel right (like a fish out of water) during the first few years of his career.
