I knew this kid in college who was walking down the street in Atlantic City, NJ. A man jumped off the top of a 12-story parking garage to his death. He landed several feet in front of where this kid was walking. This kid had so many post traumatic issues from seeing that; it really messed him up. This was a suicide. He was calm because he had resolved within himself what he felt he had to do. I spoke with my brother the day before he completed a suicide in 2003. We were laughing and cutting up just like when we were kids. A few days later...I got the call. You just never know. Tell the people you love how much they mean to you. How much you love them. I started something with my sons years ago. We never ever left the presence of the other with out saying, "I love you". When texting came along same thing end your text with, "I love you." I started this with them because I wanted them to know if anything happened to the other they would know the last words they said was," I love you" Just yesterday one of my twins said, "Mom I am so glad I know the last words I said to Joshua was, "I love you bro." " You see 6 months ago, I found my oldest son Joshua dead and decomposing in his apartment. I figured he had been there for 3 Days. Joshua, my son, was murdered. The last text I sent to him ended with, " Get some rest. I'll see you on Wednesday. I love you son." Little did I know within 12 hours my son would be dead. My heart goes out to this man's family. May he rest in peace.

I’m not sure what place you are in now compared to when you wrote this, but as someone who has been there in that dark place too I can relate, but also know that no amount of ‘you’re not alone’, ‘hang in there’ comments etc. actually helps. What does though is detaching the feeling of not feeling good enough from yourself or anyone else you may feel judged by. Anyone saying ‘you’ll be fine’ etc. only makes you feel like you’re at the bottom compared to others (it’s an unconscious judgement) so I found over time reducing expectations on myself was the best way to get out of that place. To enjoy little wins, however small, and the sooner the better. Big wins were not good, they felt elusive and often made me feel worse afterwards as it was a case of ‘am I good enough now?’, whilst others didn’t really see the effort and therefore just led to underwhelming support and more rejection. Once I changed my perspective on what life should be, a series of small chapters each as important as each other however small, things changed. Enjoy your coffee, a walk, jumping in a puddle, doing a crossword, cleaning the dishes. As we get older we think there’s less to live for, but there’s so many things for our brain still to try for the first time, and we need that engagement. Whatever it is, just little wins. In time the feeling of helplessness goes away as you aren’t judging yourself anymore or needing others to feel okay in yourself. Hope that helps you, or anyone else going through this dark phase.

I've attempted suicide a few times and it's something I think about daily, it's a daily struggle. We don't want to die, we just want the pain and suffering to go away and so far nothing has helped these thoughts go away. I've been on tons of different meds, they didn't help, the side affects and withdrawals were horrible and made things worse. We have no way of knowing what may have contributed, it's usually a number of factors but I worked a suicide hotline and to just blurt out that it's the families fault is cruel, thoughtless and reckless! Families go through a living nightmare that they never wake up from because of mental illness which is almost always the main contributor. Yes, there are cases of abuse that can be a factor in somebody choosing to take their own life but I can tell you that many people who attempt or successfully commit suicide leave brokenness and devastation behind for the people who love them.

I got on a ski left wrong as a kid and this same thing happened to me. Luckily I jumped and landed in soft snow before I got too high. I was also quiet because I was trying to think of what to do. But I think a grown man doing this, most likely wasn't making any mistake like this without intent. Rip.

I am short and they are hard to get on and get the gate closed. The seats are slick and those safety bars aren't close to you. I rode one twice and never again. The first time I had one of my kids with me and i prayed the whole time that neither one of us would fall out. The second time was when I was alone and i hated it. Never again I will walk from now on.

This is beyond depressing because you can see absolutely no reaction on his face or emotion. he couldn't have slipped out because he was just hanging there. The only logical explanation is that he stood up and got himself in that position to hang there. The ride went over the water fountain and he dropped when it went passed it completely. He was probably going through a lot and lost his battle to depression. Rest in peace👼

As tragic as this suicide was, and with all consideration of the immense hopelessness and depression this man was certainly enduring, I have to say that his choice of exit at a family theme park before young kids seems so horribly selfish. I empathize greatly with his obvious suffering that led him to choose to end his own life, but to choose such a place in the middle of a busy day with kids around, knowing it will traumatize them, seems very cruel to others. It’s a terrible thing when one is so despondent that they fail to even consider the horror that witnessing his end will cause to kids.

My Daughter actually WITNESSED a man on the edge of a building before he jumped (many years ago in Salt Lake City) and there were people that came to her school the day after the field trip; to talk to anyone about what they saw and to help and try and explain, or provide counseling.

I'm a retired Firefighter and seen some of the most horrific things throughout my carrier. I am unable to leave my house because everywhere I go I see the faces of the families that I had once recovered a body of a family member. The unfortunate part is no one believes me so I'm looked at as just a lazy person and freak. Even the local psychiatrist accused me of being a drug dealer and put it on my record which destroys all my credibility and has made my life a living hell. That's terrible, mate. Ask your doctor to refer you to a clinical psychologist for some therapy for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Whether your diagnosis ends up being PTSD or something different doesn't really matter, the treatment is more important that the label, and a clinical psychologist can help. A clinical psychologist cannot prescribe drugs like a psychiatrist can, so there will be no accusations of drug-seeking. I don't think drugs are appropriate for your issue, anyway - you need assistance processing your thoughts and feelings, not to numb them with drugs (no judgement if you are self-medicating with alcohol or other drugs - it's a very common coping strategy). If you want a head start on treatment, consider thinking about why you think it is that you are struggling so much. I'm not suggesting that you should be able to witness such horrors without being affected but you were there as a hero, minimising the tragedy. I'm wondering if you have been overly hard on yourself, accepting responsibility for not being able to rescue everyone. Unless you were also lighting fires, this is entirely unreasonable because it's simply not possible to save everyone. Every doctor that works in a hospital will lose a patient. You are seeing the relatives at the worst moment of their lives so it's reasonable that they are upset rather than expressing gratitude for what you did achieve. It's a shame that the department, station or union didn't provide more mental health support. Perhaps there is an organisation dedicating to helping first responders that you can call upon. Even socialising with other firefighters, current and retired might help. I think you will find that just talking to other people and hearing that they are having the same problems will help because it validates your suffering. My father is a clinical psychologist and he believes that a lot of our negative thought processes, such as being overly self-critical, stem from unmet childhood psychological needs, such as recognition for example. He's written a self-help book that I've had some good feedback on. It's rather wordily titled "Let your true self shine - How to recognise and overcome the barrier that maintains low self-esteem". It's available as an e-book on Amazon but he wrote it to help people not to make money, so here is a link to it as a pdf -

He was drunk and was trying to attempt to do pull ups on the ride
My youngest sister was operating one of the games right by the fall site where he fell. She could see him falling as well as before when he was dangling.
He lost energy after the last pull up and couldn't get up. And lost grip over one of the bumps that the carts go over on the cords.

my dad killed himself a few years ago in the shed. he was dying and in pain so he did what he had to do. he nailed the door shut and put cardboard and metal on the windows so my mom couldn't get in. the police had to open the door with a ram thing. i will always respect him for doing all that so my mother wouldn't have to see his body in that manner. he left a note and such.. what makes me mad is that people are against euthanasia for the elderly and sick who rationally wish to end their physical suffering. i have zero sympathy for healthy people who kill themselves, only their family. I feel like all this suicide hotline type shit makes people think only insane people might want to commit suicide and makes it so that many rational people who should die in a hospitial or surrounded by family and dying peacefully have to hang themselves or shoot themselves
