écoutes ça je me souviens
The lyrics of "Duel de sans-pareil" by Fabulous Trobadors depict a wordplay-filled conversation between two individuals, Sans-Pareil and Jésus-Christ, who are attempting to outdo each other in terms of wit and claims of grandiosity. The conversation begins with Sans-Pareil proclaiming himself to be the one who raises and sets the sun, and has the ability to make or break kings. Jésus-Christ, in turn, introduces himself as the son of God and claims to be present everywhere, with the Virgin Mary as his mother and God as his father. The exchange continues with both boasting about their sexual exploits, with Sans-Pareil claiming to sleep with Mona Lisa and be friends with a French politician, while Jésus-Christ advises him to use protection when sleeping with the politician.
The two continue to belittle each other, with Sans-Pareil calling Jésus-Christ's jokes unsuccessful and lacking substance, only to be met with a retort about his own lowbrow humor. The conversation then takes a turn towards a more personal tone, with Sans-Pareil claiming to remember past events from before he was born, and Jésus-Christ suggesting that if Sans-Pareil's father had known what he would become, he wouldn't have let him be born. The song ends with Sans-Pareil acknowledging Jésus-Christ's wit and recognizing him as a great figure in history, despite their differences.
Overall, the lyrics of "Duel de sans-pareil" are a witty, playful and often irreverent exchange between two boastful characters, attempting to one-up each other. The song is a commentary on human vanity, the absurdity of ego and the relative insignificance of individuals in the grand scheme of things.
