You're never going to wake up and change your mind
You're never going to keep what you hold
You won't accomplish anything on your own
You can't have what you wanted
So make up your mind and come to your senses
It's not so complicated
If you decide to change your mind
You'll find your inundated
You're never going to do what you say
You'll always try to make up another way
You're never going to act on your own
You're never going to see that you're all alone
And so you're here and you don't know
If you can choose the way to go
It's not about the way it is
So don't become a realist
You've got time to make a choice
Don't think aloud but have a voice
And when you think the time is right
Don't ever be afraid to fight
The lyrics of Face to Face's song Complicated convey a sense of frustration and helplessness. The singer is addressing someone who seems unable to take control of their life and make their own decisions. The repeated phrase "you're never going to" emphasizes the hopelessness of the situation. The theme of the song is that change is possible, but it requires a willingness to take risks and break out of old habits.
The first verse suggests that the person being addressed is unable to let go of things they hold onto, and is thus unable to accomplish anything on their own. The second verse goes on to describe this person as indecisive and unable to act on their own. The bridge of the song offers a glimmer of hope, encouraging the person to make a choice and take action. The repeated refrain of "it's not so complicated" suggests that the path to change is simpler than it might seem.
The final verse offers a call to action, urging the person to make a choice and not be afraid to fight for what they want. Throughout the song, there is a sense of frustration and impatience with the person being addressed. It is clear that the singer believes that change is possible, but only if the person is willing to take control.
