Face to Face Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Is there something that you should know?
I can tell you what you want to hear
Let you inhibitions just go
No you don't know what you will give up
You don't know what you want
It may take you years to find out
It's something that may never come to you
Trust is something that comes easy
When you've never been a victim
Lies and promises and words are said
It's your decision to accept them
The lyrics of Face to Face's song Disconnected explore the idea of communication breakdowns and the difficulty of really knowing someone else. The opening line, "you don't know a thing about me," sets the tone for the rest of the song, as the singer seems to be addressing someone who thinks they understand him but really doesn't. He offers to tell this person what they want to hear and encourages them to let go of their inhibitions, but warns them that they may not really know what they want and it may take years to figure out.
The second verse shifts to a discussion of trust and victimhood. The singer suggests that trust is easy when you've never been hurt, but for those who have been a victim of lies and broken promises, it's not so easy. He seems to be cautioning the listener to be careful in accepting what others say, because they may not have their best interests at heart.
Overall, the lyrics of Disconnected offer a sobering reminder that understanding and trust are not always easy to come by, and that it's important to be cautious in our relationships with others.
