Not Enough
Faces Of March Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Scattered in pieces
I watch you today
I close my eyes
Holding my shattered faith
As you play the role you play

It's not enough
The pain I feel
I'd leave and make this better (yeah)
It's not enough
To make me go away

Running in circles
From sick twisted lies
So what is the point
In the tears that I cry?
And now you fill me up with nothing
Your words just leave a bitter taste

I wish I could pretend
That everything could be the same again
And I wish I could believe
This fairytale for me would never end

It's not enough
The pain I feel
I'll leave and make this better

It's not enough
To make me go away

Overall Meaning

The song "Not Enough" by Faces Of March is a heart-wrenching portrayal of a painful relationship. The opening lines of the chorus "It's not enough, the pain I feel, I'd leave and make this better" express a deep sense of dissatisfaction - the singer is clearly hurt beyond repair, and their pain isn't satisfied with mere hollow words. The song talks about the cyclical nature of the doomed relationship, with the singer feeling as if they are running in circles around sick twisted lies. The frustration in the lyrics is palpable - the singer wishes they could pretend everything could be the same again and hopes that the fairytale they were living in would not come to an end.

The third and fourth lines of the opening verse "I close my eyes, holding my shattered faith, as you play the role you play" showcases the idea that the singer can see through the façade that their partner is presenting, but can do nothing about it. They are forced to close their eyes and hold onto faith that is already shattered. The singer is filled with nothingness as their partner's words leave a bitter aftertaste. The yearning to make things better and the realization that the pain is just too much to bear anymore is illustrated well in the lyrics "It's not enough, to make me go away."

Overall, the song is a powerful representation of heart-wrenching pain as the singer struggles with the realization that the relationship is broken beyond repair.

I loved just hanging out while with you doing your makeup and nerding out about games and tv shows. That's totally my vibe! Backseat gaming (the official term for it) with my partner is so much fun, and both of the Last of Us and Horizon games are a few of my all time favourites. Aloy is one of my favourite game characters and didn't even know they were producing a TV series! 😱 Thanks for the info!
And on the topic of good TV series, I'm currently enjoying the new season of The Mandalorian which is the bestest thing I've seen in a looong time (outside of the last of us of course). But speaking of sets, man WOW! (And I completely agree with you on that, and how they are doing an incredible job with matching up the look of the games)

But seriously, I couldn't recommend The Mandalorian on Disney + more. And that's coming from someone who never really was the biggest Star Wars fan either (was bit more of a Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter geek myself).

Thanks for the opportunity to just nerd out a bit with some old school makeup content, and I hope you and your son had a lovely day together ❤️

Thank you so much Marthe! I had no idea that there was an actual term for loving to watch others play video games. I'd be really interested to hear what other games you've enjoyed. The hubs and I don't have a ton of time to play these days but we are always on the lookout for when we do have a bit more. I know that he picked up the new HP game but we haven't delved into it yet.
I'm really hopeful for the Horizon Zero Dawn show. It's apparently being developed by Netflix which is a positive in my eyes. They tend to produce really quality content however I do also worry a little because it seems like they are also quick to drop shows if they aren't as immediately successful as they'd hoped for.
Like you I wasn't ever super into Star Wars but the hype around the Mandalorian has been so good that I have been curious. Hopefully we can jump into it once we finish Last of Us. Thank you for the recommendation!!

@Little Miss Lipstick i loved to backseat game Witcher 3 with him, and we have both played the Hogwarts game as I have been a true HP fan since 1999 and had to experience my childhood dreams come true.

Netflix series are some of my favourites as well, but oh so scary to see what happens after that first good season with almost every show. Luckily, Horizon good be a good one or two seasons show.

I can see how gaming and tv watching becomes more rare in the parenting life! I guess it's all about what you want to prioritise those special small pockets of time doing. And sometimes it's really freeing to just escape into other worlds and stories together. I can highly recommend both The Witcher 3, Hogwarts Legacy and The Mandalorian if your looking for something good to game or watch together 😊
