At Cliffs Edge
Faded Hope Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Go!

I stand in the door way.
You shove me and you love me.
Can you tell me what the hell this is all about?
I’m not quite sure I understand everything.
I punch the wall when you say it don’t matter to me.
I’m standing at cliff’s edge.
I’m starting to think about jumping.
I know it’s a long way down.
If I stay here with you I’m going down anyhow.

I see the light, but it never shines on me.
You’re so damn close, but you’re too blind that you can’t see.
I finally let go of my shadows yesterday.
I stand here with a clean conscious with nothing to say.

I’m standing at cliff’s edge.
I’m starting to think about jumping.
I know it’s a long way down.
If I stay here with you I’m going down anyhow.

I see the light, but it never shines on me.
You’re so damn close, but you’re too blind that you can’t see.
I can feel it, yeah I can see it.
The way I am and the way you are!

I’m standing at cliff’s edge.
I’m starting to think about jumping.
I know it’s a long way down.
If I stay here with you I’m going down anyhow.

I’m going down anyhow.
Well, I’m a going down…

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Faded Hope's "At Cliff's Edge" reflect a sense of desperation and confusion in a toxic relationship. The singer is standing at the edge of a cliff, metaphorically representing the brink of their breaking point. They feel like they have reached their limit with their partner, whose actions and words are causing them pain and making them feel trapped. The repeated lines "I’m standing at cliff’s edge. I’m starting to think about jumping," indicate that the singer is considering drastic measures to escape the pain of the relationship, even if it means ending their own life. However, they also recognize that staying in the relationship will lead to their destruction, with the line, "If I stay here with you I’m going down anyhow."

The second verse reveals a longing for the other person to see and understand the singer's pain, but the partner remains blind to the harm they are causing. The line, "I finally let go of my shadows yesterday," suggests that the singer has been holding onto past traumas or insecurities but has now released them and has a clear conscience. The song ends with the repeated line, "I'm going down anyhow," indicating that the singer feels trapped either way, whether they stay in the destructive relationship or not.

@Morgan Booth Wow, a lot of great insights from the horse's mouth, if you will! I didn't know they formed (re-formed?) Autumn Burning, though I'd heard of the band. Thank you for filling us in, and I hope those guys are doing well. Cheers! 😃

@John M Yeah, this was a great group of guys based out of the same area that I have called home for most of my life. In my music collection, I have a total of 16 songs by this group. I remember that I got 4 of the songs for free from the band on a demo CD that they used to give out to fans at shows, and unfortunately I never got to see them play live, because I was living out of the state at the time, but the group sent me a demo CD and a DVD with two different short setlists on it, in the mail. Any other songs that I have from this group, I did my part in supporting the local music scene and purchased them wherever I was able to do so.

In addition, for a little over two years( from Feb. 2016 to Aug. 2018), I worked as a security guard at the same factory where the drummer for this group, Mitch worked. Since then, I have been transferred to a different post.

Also, you might already know this, but this song and the other song you have up here by this group, were actually re-recorded with the new group the vocalist joined up with, after the disbanding of this group. Look up the album "Prey" by a band called Autumn Burning - this album was released earlier this year.

Oh, awesome! Well, good luck potentially digging it out! As I've said, my goal is to put music on here that people otherwise wouldn't hear, and I think it's the same with spaceuntravel and MontageRock and others! :)

I actually think I have their full ep around here somewhere, I'll have to do some hunting for it

John M

Yeah, this is a killer song, I couldn't find anything else from them though? I used to think that a band could only make an impact with a full album, but with all of the great EP's and singles I've heard - like this one - that opinion must be amended. Cheers, man! :)
