The youngest of the five children of José Fares, Lebanese immigrant to Brazil, and Dona Francisca, Fagner was born in Fortaleza, the capital of the state of Ceará, although his birth was recorded in Orós.
At the age of five years he won a youth competition at a local radio station. As a teen, he formed vocal and instrumental groups and began to compose his own music. In 1968 he won the Festival de Música Popular do Ceará (Popular Music Festival of Ceará) with his song "Nada Sou" (I am Nothing).
In 1971 he moved to the capital Brasília, taking first place in the Festival de Música Popular do Centro de Estudos Universitários de Brasília (Popular Music Festival of the University Studies Center of Brasília) with his piece "Mucuripe" (with collaborator Belchior), which was later recorded by artist Elis Regina, and became Fagner's first notable success as a composer. He won prizes in other categories with additional pieces, as well.
He has had a distinguished career as a performer, singer, songwriter and composer for over 3 decades, and is also known for his collaborations with other MPB artists such as Caetano Veloso, Roberta Miranda, Chico Buarque and others.
Minha Vidinha
Fagner Lyrics

Como vai, como passou
Como anda essa coisinha
Sem carinho, e sem amor
Tô sabendo que a saudade
Machucou seu coração
E pra falar a verdade
Estou nessa situação
Meu pensamento é você
Não encontrei outro jeito
Vim aqui para lhe ver.
Vamos embora meu bem
Lá pra casa
Ajeitar os troços
Faz tanto tempo
Que você partiu
Viver só não posso
Aquele pé de roseira
Morreu de saudade
E de solidão
Eu ainda vivo
Porque tá batendo
O meu coração.
The lyrics to Fagner's song Minha Vidinha depict a conversation between two individuals, where one expresses concern for the other's current state, both physically and emotionally. The singer asks how his "vidinha" (loved one) is doing and notes that she seems to be lacking affection and love. The singer then acknowledges the pain of the other, stating that he is in the same situation, as he cannot stop thinking about her and is even losing sleep. The chorus shifts the focus to a plea for the loved one to come back home, as the singer notes that living alone is not an option, and even the rose bush in the backyard has died from a lack of attention. Despite this, the singer continues to live because his heart is still beating.
This song's lyrics aptly capture the emotion of longing and missing someone that one holds dear, and how important companionship can be in life. It depicts the experience of two individuals who are feeling incomplete without their loved ones by their side. The song almost serves as a reminder of the importance of cherishing one another and shows how much emptier life can be without the presence of the one you love.
