Comfort
Failure Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Special demons
From under hair
They've come to say
You're not so great

Petting the carpet
Saliva
Flows strong
Birds scream
At people
And hard tears
Land soft

Special demons
From under hair
They've come to say
You're not so great
You're not so great
You're not so great
You're not so great

Petting the carpet
Saliva
Flows strong
Birds scream
At people
And hard tears
Land soft

Special demons
From under hair

They've come to say
You're not so great

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song "Comfort" by Failure seem to delve into the vulnerability of the human psyche and the fact that we are all susceptible to feelings of inadequacy and insecurity. The opening lines talk about "special demons from under hair" which could be interpreted as the negative thoughts or emotions that reside within us and undermine our confidence. The demons are telling the singer that they are not as great as they believe themselves to be, which could be a commentary on the societal pressure to constantly perform and achieve success.

The imagery in the song is also significant. The line "petting the carpet" could represent the act of seeking comfort in mundane or material things, while "saliva flows strong" could imply a sense of anxiety or nervousness. The following lines about birds screaming at people and the juxtaposition of hard tears landing soft further emphasize the theme of inner turmoil.

The repetition of the phrase "You're not so great" reinforces the idea that despite outward appearances, we all have our own insecurities and vulnerabilities. The song could be seen as a reminder to be compassionate towards oneself and others, recognizing that we all face struggles and challenges in life.
