Failure Lyrics

That you want
I'm never gonna feel the shame
Like you do
I'm never gonna stretch my shape
To be with you
I only need you for a day
'Cause I only want to be your
Saturday savior
I can be that
Saturday savior
I will be your
Saturday savior
I can be that impostor in your bed
Wake him up please
I'm never gonna make you feel
That you're satisfied
I'm never gonna feel your pain
Like you wish I would
I'm never gonna open up
More than this
I just want to be your
I just want to be your
I'm never gonna break apart
Quite like you
I'm never gonna long for life
The way you do
I'm never gonna push you out
'Cause your not in
This will only take a while
'Cause I only want to be your
Saturday savior
The lyrics of Failure's song "Saturday Saviour" reflect a self-awareness and a clear-eyed vision of the singer's role in a relationship. The verses are full of negative statements and refusals to conform to the expectations of the other person, emphasizing that the singer will not be shaped or manipulated to become what the other person wants them to be. Instead, the chorus introduces the idea of being a "Saturday savior," an impostor who can provide temporary relief or distraction on a weekend or a night out, but only briefly. The emphasis on the word "impostor" suggests a lack of genuine connection or emotional commitment, and the repeated refrain "I only want to be your" underscores the singer's limited, surface-level involvement in the relationship.
Overall, the song paints a picture of a relationship that is unbalanced and superficial, with one person seeking more from the connection than the other is willing or able to provide. The repeated use of negative statements and "never gonna" assertions highlights the distance between the two partners and their inability to bridge the gap. The chorus's focus on temporary relief instead of deeper connection underscores the futility of trying to find meaning or satisfaction in something that is ultimately shallow and unsatisfying.
