A bittersweet emotion -
From deep inside your eyes
And sometimes in the night -
As you whisper in your sleep
You reach out like you used to
And then it cuts so deep
For the love that I am sending -
Now it's drifting with the wind
And the faith I'm still pretending -
It's a fight my heart can't win
Just tell me I'm wrong -
Just tell me this love ain't gonna die
Just tell me I'm wrong -
Whatever you need I'll make it right
Just don't keep me hanging on, girl -
To a dream your heart can't find
Don't you know - it's breaking mine
I roam the streets -
Trying to read your mind
A drifter going nowhere -
For now these eyes are blind
But somewhere in that night -
There's a dream that drives me on
No matter what it takes now -
'Cause still it seems so strong
But the love that I am sending -
Now it's drifting with the wind
And the doubts they're never ending -
It's a fight my heart can't win
Just tell me I'm wrong -
Just tell me this love ain't gonna die
Just tell me I'm wrong -
Whatever it takes I'm gonna try
Just don't keep me hanging on, girl -
To a dream your heart can't find
Don't you know - it's breaking mine
Just tell me I'm wrong -
Just tell me this love ain't gonna die
Just tell me I'm wrong -
Whatever you need I'll make it right
Just don't keep me hanging on, girl -
To a dream your heart can't find
Don't you know - it's breaking mine
Fair Warning's song, "Tell Me I'm Wrong," is a heart-wrenching ballad about a man pleading with his lover to give him an honest answer about their fading relationship. The opening lines, "I see you smile - such a silent smile, a bittersweet emotion - from deep inside your eyes," set the tone for the song. The singer can detect that something is off in his partner's demeanor, but she won't come clean about what's going on. He describes his frustration when he says, "Just tell me I'm wrong - whatever you need I'll make it right. Just don't keep me hanging on, girl - to a dream your heart can't find. Don't you know - it's breaking mine." He is willing to do whatever it takes to save their relationship, but he can't handle the uncertainty.
The chorus repeats several times throughout the song, emphasizing the singer's desperation to salvage the relationship. He continues to cling to a dream of love that he believes is still possible, but the doubts that plague him are never-ending. The lyrics reveal the struggle of trying to hold onto something that may have already slipped away. The use of the phrase, "It's a fight my heart can't win," further emphasizes the theme of helplessness and the desperation to hold onto love.
In conclusion, the song "Tell Me I'm Wrong" by Fair Warning encapsulates the pain and desperation felt in a relationship on the brink of falling apart. The song's strong chorus and emotional lyrics demand the listener's attention, and its relevant theme of struggling to hold onto love makes it a timeless piece of music.
