Fairuz was born Nouhad Haddad in Jabal al Arz, Lebanon. She began her musical career as a teenager. From chorus girl at the Lebanese radio station in the late 1940s, to critical and popular acclaim from the 1950s to today, Fairuz is acknowledged not only for her musical talent and contribution, but also as a cultural and political icon. A symbol of a people, a heritage, a quest for peace, and of humanity. During most of her career, Fairuz reflected two other great artists, Assi and Mansour Rahbani. They wrote the lyrics and composed her tunes. Today, many of her songs reflect the composing talent of Ziad Rahbani who is Fairuz's son. Her songs testify to the Rahbani musical genius, as well as to Fairuz's broad musical background. Referred to as "The Soul of Lebanon" in the 1970s, Fairuz became a pre-eminent figure, a superstar of current music in the Arab world. Together, the Rahbani family is both a school of music and a cultural phenomenon.

The lyrics to Fairuz's song "Fi Shi Am 'bisser" convey a sense of uncertainty and questioning regarding the singer's feelings and experiences. The repeated phrase "Bets'al 'aleyyi kteer w bet7ebenni" ("You ask about me a lot and you love me") suggests that the singer is in a relationship or close friendship with someone who is constantly checking in on them. However, the singer seems to be hesitant about fully embracing these feelings and experiences, as they say "Lish byedallo ehssasi y'a'le" ("Why does my feeling keep telling me no?") and "Fi shi baddo yseer, fi shi 'am byseer" ("There's something that wants to happen, something that's happening").
The lyrics are predominantly in Lebanese Arabic and were written and composed by the renowned Lebanese musician Ziad Rahbani. The song was released in 1979 as part of Fairuz's album "Wahdon"; the album was produced during the Lebanese Civil War and drew upon themes of resilience, loneliness, and longing. "Fi Shi Am 'bisser" has since become a beloved and iconic song in the Arab world; it has been covered by numerous artists and is often performed at concerts and weddings.
