Fairuz was born Nouhad Haddad in Jabal al Arz, Lebanon. She began her musical career as a teenager. From chorus girl at the Lebanese radio station in the late 1940s, to critical and popular acclaim from the 1950s to today, Fairuz is acknowledged not only for her musical talent and contribution, but also as a cultural and political icon. A symbol of a people, a heritage, a quest for peace, and of humanity. During most of her career, Fairuz reflected two other great artists, Assi and Mansour Rahbani. They wrote the lyrics and composed her tunes. Today, many of her songs reflect the composing talent of Ziad Rahbani who is Fairuz's son. Her songs testify to the Rahbani musical genius, as well as to Fairuz's broad musical background. Referred to as "The Soul of Lebanon" in the 1970s, Fairuz became a pre-eminent figure, a superstar of current music in the Arab world. Together, the Rahbani family is both a school of music and a cultural phenomenon.

The song "Khaleek Bilbait" by Fairuz is a pleading love song that urges the object of the singer's affection to stay at home. The opening lines "Khaleek bilbait, halla habbit" ("Stay at home, now that I love you") convey the importance of home as a safe haven in times of love and longing. The singer then declares that they will be alone, even at the height of their affection, and asks the beloved to stay put.
The chorus "Allah ykhalleek khaleek bilbait" ("God keep you at home") is repeated frequently, emphasizing the singer's desire for the beloved to remain close. The singer expresses their jealousy and possessiveness towards the beloved by saying "Ma baaref lesh w bghar aalik" ("I don't know why I'm jealous of you").
The final verse urges the beloved to come inside and escape the dark and lonely night, portraying the importance of home as a place of comfort and safety. The song ends with the repeated plea to "Khaleek bilbait" ("Stay at home").
Overall, "Khaleek Bilbait" is a touching portrayal of the importance of home in times of love and longing, and the singer's desire for the beloved to remain close.
