Fairuz was born Nouhad Haddad in Jabal al Arz, Lebanon. She began her musical career as a teenager. From chorus girl at the Lebanese radio station in the late 1940s, to critical and popular acclaim from the 1950s to today, Fairuz is acknowledged not only for her musical talent and contribution, but also as a cultural and political icon. A symbol of a people, a heritage, a quest for peace, and of humanity. During most of her career, Fairuz reflected two other great artists, Assi and Mansour Rahbani. They wrote the lyrics and composed her tunes. Today, many of her songs reflect the composing talent of Ziad Rahbani who is Fairuz's son. Her songs testify to the Rahbani musical genius, as well as to Fairuz's broad musical background. Referred to as "The Soul of Lebanon" in the 1970s, Fairuz became a pre-eminent figure, a superstar of current music in the Arab world. Together, the Rahbani family is both a school of music and a cultural phenomenon.
La Meen Al Haida
Fairuz Lyrics

The lyrics to Fairuz's song La Meen Al Haida tell the story of a woman who is wondering who the gift she brought one night was for. The gift consisted of an embroidered dress and a velvet blouse. The woman asks repeatedly "to whom?" is this gift for? She also wonders who the gift of a necklace and bracelets that are adorned with jewels and tied with a bow are for.
The verses of the song are filled with the woman's musings about the person receiving the gifts. She says that she hopes that this person will appreciate the beauty of the gifts and that they will wear them with joy. The woman also reveals that she is deeply in love and that this love has been a burden on her soul. The song captures the woman's feelings of longing and desire for someone to be with.
Overall, the song is melancholic but also hopeful. It is a classic example of Fairuz's ability to convey complex emotions through her powerful voice and stunning lyrics.
