و لا رضيت سواكم في الهوى بدلا
لو كان قلبي معي ما أخترت غيركم
و لا رضيت سواكم في الهوى بدلا

The Arabic song, "Law Kana Qalbi Maii," sung by legendary Lebanese singer Fairuz, is a captivating ballad that explores themes of love, longing, and heartache. The song's title translates to 'if my heart was with me', and in the lyrics, the singer laments about a lost love that she cannot forget. She starts by saying that if her heart was with her, she wouldn't have chosen anyone else but her lost love, and she wouldn't have accepted anyone else in her life. In other words, she is saying that true love is irreplaceable, and once you find it, nothing else can compare to it. But, unfortunately, her heart is not with her, and she is longing for a love that she cannot have.
The second verse reveals a bit more about her feelings. She says that her heart desires pain and torment, and it doesn't care about justice or blame. This is a powerful expression of the intensity of emotions that people can feel when they love someone who cannot reciprocate their feelings. It is a common human experience to feel a masochistic desire to experience pain when we are in love with someone who doesn't love us back. The song's haunting melody and poignant lyrics make it easy to empathize with the singer's feelings of longing and heartache.
